I guess Cozart left today's game with a knee injury ? I didn't see the game...Price said he got an MRI but didn't know results but he expected a DL stint...expressed that he "hates to see a player leave that way"...so, might have been obviously bad. I hope not.

Having had 5 knee operations, I think I know exactly what happened to Zach. If you noticed, he could not straighten the knee when he came off the field. That is a sign of a meniscus tear or cartilage tear. He most likely is done for the year.

He'll be lucky if it's only a meniscus...from the amount of pain he looked to be in I'd guess ACL at the very least. Terming him heading to the DL before even reading the MRI is a sign it's a significant injury.

I would guess it's a season-ender.
That means the entire middle -- catcher, 2B, SS and CF are either out or are waiting to get well.
Reds just can't go out and get somebody now. I mean ... who's to get whose better than Boesch or Pena?

Isn't DeJesus a SS, or was that just his dad ? If he keeps hitting a HR a game, I think he can play SS for this team. Suarez is on the farm (Simon trade), and there is always Negron, who can't hit a lick apparently.

It's a shame, Cozart was hitting pretty well, for him, this year. Didnt he also have a gruesome elbow injury his rookie year ? I think that was him- it was his fielding elbow though I believe...the right knee is a problem for a righty- it's his plant leg on throws and at the plate.

Cozart had TJ on his elbow about 10 games into his rookie year.
I am cautiously hoping that Negron hits better with regular PT ... meaning somewhere around .230 and maybe 4 or 5 long hits. He's a hustler but his SS is far inferior to Cozart.
I imagine DeJesus plays SS, since he'd have learned it from Pop, who was damned good with a glove.

His minor league numbers don't show a whole LOT of shortstop. He played for more teams than I did back in the beer league softball tournament years.

Geez, he's been around, that's for sure. He does have a .298 career BA in an EXTENSIVE sample size- he's in his 11th pro year. One would think that means something is wrong with him- to have not caught on as a regular MLB player by age 28-and still looking, I suppose.

It happens all the time- some never make it- Corky retired as a full time minors player with only about a dozen cups of MLB coffee to his credit. can't imagine the son of a MLB player not getting a regular job in that time frame. Maybe he just got lost in the shuffle ?

The two things I remember about DeJesus Sr. is how hard he threw the ball to first....guy had a cannon. The other was his 1981 season when he led the league in the reverse triple crown. Last in average, HR's and RBI's for qualifying players. Not too many good memories from 1981....Damn Strike!!!

A lot of times, it's just that a guy gets stuck in the wrong organization. Somebody else gets the call and the other guy gets sent to the minors. By the time he's 28, he hasn't hit enough big-league pitching to be any good at it.

I think Dejesus is real. I like his bat swing, his plate aggressiveness, stance, everything about this kid says he can hit and hit for some power. Gotta let him play--what choice do you have now?

I haven't seen him play other than the short Reds stint-and it's hard to find fault in a guy homering all the time. I did see him at 2b the other day on a Phillips-like backhand relay from Cozart at the 2b bag, and IDJ dropped the ball, didnt get an out. Like he was suprised he got a throw. Didnt like that sign much.

We'll see. I hope he plays well, or is replaced quickly by someone that does. In my baseball world, anyone playing up the middle is critical to success defensively. The other guys better crush the ball offensively. This team had been pretty good up the middle, but the corners of the OF have let them down with the bat, and still are. If the middle D goes south too, this team is the Phillies.

Turns out to be worse case scenario for Cozart. It's being reported torn ACL and LCL...nine month recovery time.

Aside from giving a damn about Cozart, what does the roster look like?
How hurt is Phillips? If he is hurt, he still has turf toe.
How hurt is Hamilton? A wrist is a wrist?
Can Mesoraco actually PLAY left field?

Need a scorecard to keep track of the Reds' roster the past couple weeks.

Cozart to the DL and Pedro Villarreal optioned to Louisville. Players recalled are Chris Dominguez and Suarez.

I'd guess Dominguez is keeping Mesoraco's spot warm until he's ready and Dominguez will be optioned out.

The Reds have Jason Bourgeois on rehab assignment. I don't think he has any option years remaining....so what's the deal there.

Beat me to the punch John.

Chris Dominguez call up is a bit of a surprise...but as I said...I think it's temporary.

Mesoraco will be with the big club by the end of the week. Whether he plays LF with any skill .....
I don't see Bourgeous making this roster. He really can't help them, can he?

OF ... Skippy, Negron, Byrd, Boesch, Bruce, Hamilton, DeJesus, Dominguez ... now Mesoraco and Bourgeous?

More bad news...... Jim Day just reported Mesoraco is having additional problems with the hip playing the OF.
