many of us are bummed at how the ST has gone,
i thought our pitching would shine more
but where we are now is better than where we sat 4/1/12.

i am excited about alvarez, cutch, both sanchezes, and marte, and wandy.
worried about snider and martin (espec martin Defense)
i think sanchez hits well and jones goes to right has a better chance of happening than snider doing well. tabata and marte are the wild cards to me. if tabata and marte can really OBP and SB, the top of the lineup will be great and our OF will have speedx3 and arms x2.5

see below.

2012 vs 2013 better
C barajas martin 13
1B jones jones sl 13
2B walker walker 13 if healthy
3B alvarez alvarez 13
SS barmes barmes sl 13
LF presley marte 13
CF cutch cutch same but more help
RF tabata snider 13

B1 harrison/navarro harrison/inge sl 13
B2 mcGehee snachez 13 - a sleeper
B3 mcclouth tabata 13 - redemption
B4 hague mcdonald 13 - better D no hit either one
B5 mcKenry mcK same

S1 bedard burnett 13
S2 karstens wandy 13
S3 mcDonald mcD more consistency
S4 correia sanchez chance for upgrade over 12
S5 morton locke chance for upgrade over 12
S6 burnett (DL) Liriano/Karstens/Morton (DL) 12

I think they are better this year, not a lot, but enough to get them an extra 4-5 wins.

The rotation is better, and has more help to come, both on the DL and in the minors. Plus there a bunch of younger guys still on roster who haven't hit their primes, I would expect there is a net gain in performance among the guys in the their early to mid 20's, which is most of the position players.

2014 Team (a few extra players thrown in due to injuries, regression, etc):
SP-Cole, Liriano, Rodriguez, Morton/McDonald/Locke/McPherson (Burnett?)
BP-Grilli, Melancon, Hughes, Watson, Wilson, Locke, McPherson, Morris
Line-Up- same group but with managment's focus put on acquiring a shortstop.
Martin, T.Sanchez, Jones, G. Sanchez, Walker, Alvarez, McCutchen, Marte, Tabata, Snider, Harrison, Mercer, D'Arnaud, Sands
Gone- Barmes, Gomez, Inge, Karstens, Leroux, John McDonald, McKenry

Everything stays the same except Barmes and Karstens are gone. Tony Sanchez comes up and splits time with Martin. The big question is will they bring Burnett back? I think it won't be known until we see how the unknowns (Liriano, Morton, McDonald) fare. Also, Rodriguez has an option so it isn't know if he will be back or not.
