Not as mad about this as I am about the Saunders trade. We took a position of weakness and made it even weaker without an obvious backup plan. And no Jones, Romero and Miller is not an acceptable backup plan. We made it weaker for a #4-5 starter at best when we could have signed a guy just like him and given up nothing. But yeah this definately makes all that even worse

For me Saunders wasn't ever the answer for a team wanting to win a championship. With a team that has a thin lineup, you can't have guys on it that are consistently missing games and are slightly better than average when healthy. He was streaky and injury prone. Little loss in my eyes. Yes he batted a career high of .273, but he also only had 231 AB's. He had 1 year of 400+ AB's (406) and one year of 500+ AB's (507) which he batted a combined .242 over those 2 years.

I usually agree with you, but I have never seen such dying love for such an average player. Now I can see him having some value for Toronto where is offense isn't needed so he will be a bonus player. We will have to disagree on this one.

I don't think anyone believed he was the answer, but he's a better right fielder than anyone on the current FA market, much less the roster.

Ackley has gotten better defensively but he still had 4 bad months and 2 good ones just like 2013. Im not convinced on him. Jackson I would like to think cant get any worse then what we saw but who knows.

Not if we have to give up Miller in my opinion. Not really sure what next best option is now, but I stick with going for top pitching and hope Cruz gives us that 1 extra run we always seemed to be lacking.

Agreed, but hard to find an OF for OF trade that benefit both teams. I guess I originally thought he could go for Byrd or Zobrist. Less talented, but more controllable and younger than both.

I don't see it that way at all. Melky said from day 1 that he wanted to stay mid-west and over. That means a western team would have to make him change his mind with more money or more years. When Jack offered 3 years, he allowed everyone else to compete and if it came to equal or near equal offers he was going to pick a place he always he said he would. This is on Jack. He played around and lost. Not the first time and won't be the last.

The scary part now is that we either go with what we have which I don't think will get it done or he makes a crazy trade to save face. I don't see a good outcome either way.

Not sure if he is available but I would like Dexter Fowler from Houston. I actually like him better then Melky. Also I would call Tampa for the availability on Zobrist and Myers. Myers probably less likely but worth a shot. Looking like trade is the best route for decent option at this point.
