We are retaining 50% salary for both. Cap savings $4.25 this year. Vinny has said he is retiring at end of year. We get Jordan Weil and a 3rd.

Hooooooo boy what a deal

Hexy is speeding this process up and getting these guys out of here

Flyers get a third rounder AND Jordan Weal for these two guys - one person said that Jordan Weal could be a Danny Briere-type - smallish player that needs an opportunity to thrive somewhere

1. I think Hextall has pictures of the other GM's and he just keeps leaning on them about releasing the pics until they snap...just a theory.

2. Jordan Weil, I had read he projects in the NHL to be a Scotty Upshal type. 10 - 12 goals, 25 - 40 points. A tweener 2nd - 3rd line. Has some sandpaper but is smaller and relies on skating and puck sense.

3. And another pick in the top 100.

AWESOME!!!

Very sorry that such a class act as Vinny is going out this way. He is in no way to blame for how things have transpired, he is just done. At least that is how it appears.

Wow. Hextall pulling this off is truly amazing. I wonder if Lombardi owed Hexy a huge favor? This should save us approx 4 million in cap space?

This move appears to help us in both the long and short term. The short term help is in the way of $4.05 million in cap relief and one extra roster spot and the long term is a prospect and third round pick.

Pretty unreal to make something out of nothing here. Schenn was the most expendable defender we had anyway in my opinion.

Now Hextall can focus on what to do with MacDonald. If he can work some magic there, then he knows he has virtually a clean slate with this roster after next season.

If my math is correct we'll have $7.08mil in cap space once Voracek and Couturier's extensions kick in and we let Medvedev and Gagner walk. (Also assuming Vinny does retire as promised)

That is $7.08 mil with Schenn, Weal, Gudas, Manning, Cousins, and Alt as notable RFAs and White and Raffl as notable UFAs. 9 forwards, 4 defensemen, and 2 goalies signed. I am not sure in what direction the cap is going this summer, so I'll play it safe and assume it stays even.

I don't know how he keeps doing it, but I'm glad he does... Not top mention Weal was in the kings system for a few years so I'm sure he got a good look at him, betting he isn't just a throw in...

Fantastic deal I'm sure he reminded the kings that Philly worked with them in the past time to reciprocate this good will!

Down to AMac and Umberger as the only truly bad contracts left. Hextall is clearly staying the course, which means admitting that this team can't compete this year and next and instead setting them up to be a real Cup contender 2 or 3 years down the road.

Expect to see a number of additional roster players moved by the trade deadline who don't factor into that plan.

I wouldn't go quite that far. Yes, Hextall is setting us up for a bright future, but nobody has mailed in this season. We're still going to dress a team that can make the playoffs in my opinion. Losing Luke Schenn does not change that.

Now, if we're no closer than we are now at the deadline, then I'm sure he will deal 3-4 more players (that will likely be UFA's) away if at all possible. At that point, it's just the smart thing to do.
