Braves 2015 season thread

Wandy Rodriguez to start the season as the 4th starter. Eric Stults and Manny Banuelos will battle for the 5th spot until Mike Monor returns.

Peterson is the front runner for second and at the moment I can't think of a scenario that doesn't involve an unfortunate injury that wouldn't have EY Jr as the opening day CF.

Sugar Ray Marimon, Donnie Veal and Braeden Schlehuber reassigned to minor league camp. Down to 44 players battling for a spot on the 25 man roster.

Nick Markakis in the lineup for the first time today. He's DHing, so I guess he's not 100% yet, but good sign he could be ready for opening day.

Markakis finishes the day 2-3 with a double. Not bad.

I think today's Spring training game is just what the execs were hoping the offense would look like. 14 runs through 5 innings with no home runs and 11-19 with RISP.

Spring training is winding down and we're about ready to start playing games that count for something. After keeping up with Spring training the best I could, here is what I think the opening day roster will look like.

He's gonna start the season on the DL, same with Minor, when they get back, Perez would probably be sent down along with either Rodriguez or Stults.

Vizcaino is a bust. We haven't given up much either time we traded for him, but a once highly rated prospect will likely never amount to anything.

And not sure why we would trade for Cahill. He's been absolutely terrible since joining the Dbacks. Depth move I guess. Doubt he makes the rotation.

Last week I read that Wandy Rodriguez had locked up the 4th starter job. They released him today.

I'm gonna stop predicting what the opening day roster will be, because I just don't know.

Melvin Upton jr and Mike Minor will take roster spots when they return from the DL.

Pretty stoked that Peterson will be staring at 2b. That Upton deal could end up paying dividends for the Braves for many years to come. Small ball, speed, situational hitting, solid D and good pitching will have to be the recipe for the Braves this year.

With all the trades this off season, the Braves have transformed a bottom 5 minor league system to a top ten (by many accounts) system in one year. I like what Hart is doing.

I admit that I was very skeptical when he first started making moves, but the more I think about it, the more I like what he's done.

In each of the 3 big trades we were in, we'll have guys that will help the team for years to come, and I'm almost convinced we won't be under .500 this season.

Josh Outman will start the season on the DL. Juan Jaime will replace him on the opening day roster. Kind of disappointing, though it is for the final BP spot. Feigl and Kohn were impressive in spring training, and Jaime struggled in ST and has struggled during his callups to the majors in the past. Oh well.

Just got an alert on phone that Braves traded Kimbrel and Upton to Padres for top pitching prospect Matt Wisler and outfielers Carlos Quentin and Cameron Maybin. Not sure if anyone else is involved in this.

Yup, just got the same thing. Didn't see that coming. My wife is gonna be pissed, she loves Kimbrel.
