whats the remaining damage on his contract?
This season and two more at 15 per season.

Most likely we'll have to realease him midway through next season and have to eat the rest of his contract while he plays in the Phillies minor league system.

this isnt the nfl, he could shit sunshine out his ass the first half of the season and no gm will give anything of value for him...

im so underwhelmed by our offseason, this is a throw away year in the front offices minds IMO. all cards are being stacked for opening day in marietta.
The plan is to basically wait a year and get rid of BJ, err excuse me, Melvin, before anything big happens. At least that is the what I'm seeing.

It's last week's news, but I forgot to mention it, Shae Simmons will miss this season with Tommy John Surgery. We must be doing something wrong, it seems we have a lot of TJ surgeries. Then basically every minor league pitcher we traded for is recovering from TJ as well.

He's really in a no win situation with the name. He sucks dick at baseball, so going by BJ is just a bad move, and when you're a very pedestrian player, going by Melvin isn't the best bet either.

Maybe the heckling will light a fire under his ass.

Runner on first, 1 out, BJ up batting 8th, he needs to lay down a bunt and give the pitcher a chance with a RISP. Hell, I'd take Teheran's bat over BJ's.

Melvin Upton will start the season on the DL. Maybe we can get off to a hot start before he makes the lineup.

So Shae Simmons gets Tommy Johns surgery, Nick Markakis will probably start the season hurt, and B.-I mean Melvin will start season on the DL. This is truly looking like a magical season.

I would never wish injury on a player, but if I had a gun to my head and was told I had to pick a player to be hurt, my pick would be Melvin Upton Jr. Whoever they put in center will be an upgrade.

We'll miss Markakis until his return, and Simmons going down really weakens the back end of the bull pen. I had visions of a Grilli-Simmons-Kimbrel 7-8-9 combo that would have been as effective as the O'Flaherty-Venters-Kimbrel combo of a few years ago. I think we can trust Grilli in the 8th though.

Mike Minor has an appointment with Dr James Andrews next week to look at his shoulder. The same shoulder that gave him problems all last season. At least it doesn't sound like Tommy John.

We need him healthy and back to his 2013 form. If he is healthy we have a solid 4 in our rotation and 2 lefties and 2 righties at that.

If Mike Minor returns to the 2013 version of himself, our pitching should at least keep us around .500.

Our offense might not be able to score much, but I really think we improved our bull pen and rotation if Minor doesn't have a repeat of last season. Minor is the key.

Well I watched the game against the gNats yesterday and here are some thoughts:

I was very impressed with Eric Young Jr. He needs to play CF for us instead of Melvin Upton.
I was also impressed with Wandy Rodriguez, he pitched 3 very solid innings for us.
Also impressed by Christian Bethancourt, he is definitely our franchise catcher.

But I was not impressed with Jose Peraza,he struck out twice looking. It will probably be 2016 before he is ready.

It may just be my homerism starting to kick in but I think we will be better than we think and above .500 this year. Probably not make the playoffs but I could see us going 85-77 or something like that.

I'm just going to keep my expectations between 75 and 84 wins. I don't think we'll be as bad as everyone else is convinced we'll be. I mean, I know we traded a bunch of guys, but we were 29th in offense. How much worse can it really get? We're going to have a really good pitching staff that will keep us in games. We're definitely not going to contend for the division or a Wild Card spot, but I think we'll be a competitive enough team.

No real expectations from a W-L perspective this year. What I would really love is to see the continued development of Teheran and Wood, see if Miller can become a major player in our rotation, and see if Minor can turn it around. Other than that, just need our minor league guys to continue to develop.

On the offensive side, I would love o see a few more walks from Simmons. Taking a few more pitches may help become a consistent 15-homer guy. If he can do that and garner a .330 OBP, he's one of the 15 best players in baseball with his defense. Bethancourt is also a key, as I think he's a major swing (key to the team's success or failure) for the next few years. If he can learn to walk and untap his power, he does enough defensively to be very, very good.

Beyond them, just going to enjoy Freeman for what he is, a very, very good player who isn't a big power guy, and then carefull ywatch guys like Peraza and see what comes from them this year.

A few months after dropping Tyler Pastornicky off the 40 man roster he was released. Shame, I always thought he had a lot of potential.

But Jace Peterson has had a great spring training so far and is the front runner for the second base job. If he turns out to be a productive player in his first year in the system, it makes the Justin Upton trade look a lot better for us. I was under the impression that a pitcher coming off Tommy John was the biggest piece we got for Upton.
