they paid a hefty price #9 pick for him and so far he has been pretty average.

i was looking and someone like ryan miller has been pretty stellar. 10-1 2.20 .920

cory 6-5-2 2.91 .906

heck by the time this team gets turned around cory is going to be nearing his prime imo.

think this team would've been better off signing miller keeping the pick and getting say nischikin?

I wanted Nishkunin in the draft but no way would I give up Cory for him if given a do over. Wouldn't for Horvat either.

The defense has not been good in front of Cory this season. But from what Ive seen from the Nucks they have played pretty well in front of Miller. So I wouldn't take too much stock into the numbers and say he could just do the same if he was playing here.

Miller was flat out bad in front of a young D late in his time in Buffalo.

The Devils would be better off if they got Blake Wheeler instead of Clowe.
They would be better off if they got Bobby Ryan instead of Jagr.

You can win the cup almost every year if you were able to get any free agent you wanted.

Imagine if they didn't trade for Schnieder and then wasn't able to get Miller. We'd be choosing between another year of Marty or bringing in Bryz.

Cory was the best option we had at the time. Even if there are better choices out there, Cory isn't the problem IMO. He can't start every game. Three in four nights? Come on now.

The team itself needs to play better in front of whomever is in goal. That's not happening.

Also I'm over the PDB era. He doesn't have a ton to work with (especially with the injuries), but I know this team can play better with new direction. We've seen them have moments of brilliance this year. The ability is there. The coaching is not.

Pete is a very good coach with his systems. This team would be really bad playing something else. The only advantage I can see by switching coaches is that a simpler system will allow the young forwards to come up and provide some extra speed.

Are we kinda "wasting" the best years of Cory though? Miller would've been nothing but a stop gap for x amount of years. Cory is here long term feel like by the time the d matures and the old forwards retire and younger ones come online he will have been 4-5 years into his contract

We wanted a young offensive minded defense corps. That's what we're trying to grow through ATM.

Also, Marty would have an .850 SV% on this current team.

Cory needs to play like a rock like he use to.....

He's been ok but that's below what I personally had thought of him. I thought we were getting a stellar goaltender but he's been beaten a lot.... very frustrating for the games where he actually gets goal support.

I'm hoping the PK can get it's act together by the end of the month and the young D gets better. A-Train and Fayne for all their faults still logged some pretty important minutes and were solid in our end, especially on the PK. Those guys need to be replaced and it will take time.

his play has been average at best. some games hes look great some horrible majority of them average. not what i want from a goalie for the next 7 years.

playing 12 games in a row isn't helping that either. not sure what pdb thinking is just like with kovy lugging him out there for 25 mins a night.

I'll take the young D ups and downs, honestly IMO it seems more like the vets than the young guns that are sucking it up

Watching the Devils vs Bruins, Schneider is not looking good at all. Then again, neither is the Devils defensive play.

Not at all....

There's times where a goalie needs to make a save.... Cory has been awful to meet high expectations thus far...

guess the workload of a #1 is getting to him.

shame we didnt try to find this out last year and play him in an 80/20 split. now we will have to live with this for the next 7 years (if he doesnt turn it around)

also i dont want to hear that lou made the right move. he traded a #9 pick for a backup goalie. he played him as a backup goalie then he gives him a starting goalie pay check.

The main problem I have is we were hoping to get a top 5 (at least top 10) goalie and we haven't seen that.
He makes some huge stops, but then he gives up some bad goals.
Its not all his fault. The breakdowns this team has are horrible. The 4th goal last night, we have seen that type of play all year.
The 3rd goal, yea it was a miracle goal, but Cory let up on that play. You play until the whistle. Poke check, do something.

You see guys like Henrik carrying that team for all those years, making saves keeping his team in the game. Wish we had that with Cory.
Maybe he will still be that goalie, but he better start because I have a feeling the boos will come down pretty soon.

So far playing like a top goalie tonight. Really would be good if they didn't blow this one.

Hell of a game by Cory. He stole this one, even with his one stick handling screwup.

His stop on that 2 on 1 almost a 2 on 0 was a thing of beauty. The one that got behind him that he swatted with his stick was impressive as well.

IDK if they are better off, who knows who they could've gotten if they didn't get Schneider, but if they didn't have Schneider they would be in big trouble when it comes to goaltending. Marty started 19 straight games because he was that good. Cory will start at least 19 straight games because none of the backups can cut it.
