Tampa Bay really was very active moving their pitchers in just a 24 hour period.
Why can't the Yanks beat Baltimore or Tampa bay in Tampa? This is why they are trailing Boston!

Absolutely.

Yankees are 5.5 games behind Red Sox, and it's entirely because of the teams' records in inter-divisional play.

BOS vs AL East - 33-14
NYY vs AL East - 25-19

That's a 6.5 game difference.

NYY leads the season series vs BOS 5-4.

You could also say the gap can be attributed to home/away performances. Red Sox are 37-19 on the road, the Yankees are 30-22.

I don't care which team is "better" as long as those fags lose the WC game.

Jeez, if they played us all the time, they'd be a playoff team.
You guys could break away and form you own division...a league or your own

Alex Gordon fell from being an All-Star to bad quickly and their pitching has been atrocious for a few years now, but was somewhat masked by good defense. Oh yeah, and their offense was average at best and has been pretty poor for a few years now.

Do you have a way of deciphering who they're winning/losing those road games to? It could be inter-divisional road loses.

Yankees on road:

vs AL East
1-5 at the Trop
1-2 at Fenway
6-3 at Toronto
4-2 at Baltimore

(let me know if I fucked up on the math there)

vs AL Central:
2-1 at Detroit
2-2 at Cleveland
2-1 at KC
0-0 vs White Sox (they go to Chicago August 6-8)
0-0 at Twins (they play in Minneapolis Sept 10-12)

vs AL West:
1-2 at Texas
0-0 at Oakland (they go there September 3-5)
3-0 at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Orange County of California of the West Coast of the United States of North America of Earth of the Milky Way Galaxy
3-1 at Houston
0-0 at Seattle (they go there September 7-9)

Oh yeah, and losing Ventura didn't help. RIP :(

More broadly they just drafted poorly for a long time. The moves that blew up in their face on top of straight up dumb decisions like Ian Kennedy's contract have created this situation.

Also- they traded huge amounts of control of quality relievers (Soria, Buchter, Alexander) for salary relief. Terrible. Would get GM's fired if they didn't have two WS appearances and a ring to act as a mithril vest like my guy Frodo had.

Like the best guy to come from their farm in recent years that wasn't viewed as just org-filler/AAAA at the time (so no to Merrifield, sorry contrarians) is probably Mondesi, who has been notoriously mismanaged throughout the minors and is only now getting up to speed and consistent PA's... at 2B.

You could point out Manaea- but he is relying bigtime on his changeup and the Royals told him to ditch it, so would Manaea be even what he is if he stayed in KC somehow?

But hey, good on the Royals ninjaing Brad Keller I guess in the rule 5 draft.

Matias, Melendez, and Khalil Lee is a good start to rebuilding their farm from within before trades, but that's a ways away. Nicky Lopez has me interested as well.

So the nascent Royals core looks like this:

LF: Bonifacio
CF: Phillips
RF: Soler
SS: Mondesi
2B: Nicky Lopez (He'll be up in September I am guessing)

SP: Brad Keller
SP2-5: ??????????????????

RP: Lol
