23 M for 12 wins.
that is a tough deal to pay.

would rather save the money and give it to liriano if he shows last year was not an aberration. he is the age that is worth signing to a 3-4 yr deal and be around when we have the horses to run a full race to the finish.

The Phils are not paying for wins, they are paying for a pitcher that gives their team the best shot to win every 5th day. If they were paying for wins in your sense of the word then market value would have been close to $60 million per season for Burnett. I am glad that you are not the GM of the Pirates with the way you value baseball players, especially pitchers.

I'm more annoyed by the continued insistence that now is not the right time to be competitive. As if expecting Nutting to spend the money that's in his budget somehow affects this hypothetical 2016 team.

And before it comes up again - no - the money will not be "saved". It has never and will never be saved. If it isn't spent then it has to go to baseball operations, which means nutting is free to pay off his personal debt with it. Then he can sell the team whenever he likes and it all ends up in nuttings pockets in the end.
