There's nothing like some good ole smack-talk. Hutchinson getting into OSU LT, Petit Frere, letting him know, he's nothing more than an appetizer for this play. Watch Hutchinson's arm/hand/head gestures then he completely annihilates Petit Frere. You'll see it in the top clip.

Has a number 1 pick ever been used on a safety?

I could see the Lions going safety at #1 to buck the trend. Similar to all their TE drafting in the top 10.
Would be incredibly Mini-Millenesque to do. Especially with an elite DE prospect on the board.

Honestly hope they don't take that dude at #1.
I don't see him as Nick Bosa. More of a Ryan Kerrigan lite.
They shouldn't try and get cute and just take the dude from Oregon.

This guy is pretty bad ass. Would love to use our 2nd- 1st rounder or top of the 2nd round pick on him.

He reminds me of a much better version of DK Metcalf. Better hands and route running from Burks but doesn't have Metcalf's on-field speed. Both are somewhat stiff in their lower body, but Burks is more advanced in his downfield blocking at the CFB level.

I don't see the Lions passing up Thibodeaux for any other player at this juncture so long as they remain at No.1 overall.

former Pride of Detroit contributor and RAS developer, Kent Lee Platte, is running this site Mock Draft simulator with its ranking of players

I selected

01. Edge - K. Thibodeaux
23. LB - D. Lloyd
33. WR - J. Williams
65. S - J. Brisker (highly doubt he lasts this long as their rankings will change)
98. Edge - I. Thomas, Oklahoma (Zappe was gone) cannot have enough pass rushers, imo

selected Michigan St. WR - Jayden Reed in 6th round with original slotted pick

Hutchinson at the Top of the clip. His teammate, David Ojabo, is the one seen dropping into coverage out in the flat at the bottom of the clip.
That's some explosion off the LOS by Hutch

EDGE AIDAN HUTCHINSON, MICHIGAN

Hutchinson has taken his game to a level that has been untouched by anyone else in this class. He just hasn’t been blocked the past two weeks, and his 94.6 overall grade is in the Chase Young range.

EDGE KAYVON THIBODEAUX, OREGON

This isn’t giving up on K’Lavon Chaisson, but it is admitting they need to get after opposing quarterbacks better. Thibodeaux is still an athletic project, but he’s got the ideal explosiveness, length and bend combination to excel on the edge.

BB_72: That lovefest by PFF from earlier in the season seems to be evaporating to some degree.

S KYLE HAMILTON, NOTRE DAME

Safeties may not have the positional value, but Hamilton is a different breed at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds. The Fighting Irish star recorded six combined picks and pass breakups in only seven games this season.

WR JAMESON WILLIAMS, ALABAMA

Williams is the first receiver off the board because players with his kind of speed don’t last long in the draft. His 21.4 yards per reception this season would represent the perfect complement to Michael Thomas.

LB DEVIN LLOYD, UTAH

The Broncos have been decimated at the position this season, so Lloyd would bring some needed stability. He’s as complete an all-around linebacker as you’ll see in college football and recorded 30 pressures, 52 stops and four picks this season.

I hate the take that Safeties don't have positional value. I think that is an old way of thinking.

^^^^

While half kiddingly speaking, I hope something happens to Lloyd before the Bowl Games, so he drops right to us.

I will be honest, I was a big fan of Lloyd going into the season, but he has outplayed what I thought he would do.

It is complete bullshit talk and mostly by the media. I don't believe for 1 minute the hierarchy of the NFL truly feel this way anymore.

I did a rundown of Safeties drafted in the 1st round and the numbers showed that the media's take was wrong.

There is no CFB LB that has played as well as he has this year and it's not even questionable.

Georgia's Dean displays more field speed, but he also has tendencies to be out of position often enough that concerns me. Dean is exceptional at blitzing.
