Don't get me wrong, to me LeBron is obviously >>> Kobe

But LeBron started because Cleveland was awful. The Lakers were I believe a playoff team when they got Kobe. They wanted the HS kid to go easy at first. If he had started his rookie year he probably matches LeBrons scoring production over the same number of seasons

LeBron started as rookie & is on avery short list of player that averaged 20/5/5. There's no way Kobe would have averaged 20/5/5 his rookie year because he wasn't ready for the NBA. LeBron was.

It took Kobe until his 4th years to average at least 20. By LeBron's 4th year he had averged 27 ppg twice, 31 ppg once & was 3x All Star with one 1st team selection.

Indeed. I'd be surprised if an 18 year old will EVER be as good as LeBron was when he started.

LeBron's been an athletic freak since his freshman year in HS. And I don't want anyone to think I'm badmouthing Kobe, I've done that in the past. I was just going strickly by the numbers.

The Lakers' performance was a joke last night.

I'm hoping it was because they focused more on Lebrons achievement more than anything else.

This is a nothing-burger

In fact the Yahoo article actually starts with "This is probably nothing." lol
Rumor: J.R. Smith to get workout with Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers have a full roster and even if they were to cut someone on the team it wouldn't be for a guy like JR

Jammin' Jimmer Fredette would be a great addition to help the Lakers bench depth. Okay sure the Jammin' One can't guard a basketball rack but as long as no defenders get near him pretty sure he could drain 3 pointers like Steph.

*Errrrrr, um, various sounds of hesitation*

Kobe played on a much better team as a rookie also....let's not forget that little nugget of info....

James is a better all around player, but very few would say he's a better scorer than Kobe....the only players in NBA history as better scorers would be MJ and maybe Wilt. And with Wilt it would be because of his height advantage back then.

Yeah, I doubt he averages 20/5/5, but he could have/would have started if the Lakers weren't a playoff team. The Lakers had won 53 games the season before and then got Shaq the same off-season they got Kobe.

You also have to remember, he came to a team that already had Eddie Jones who was an all star in Kobe's first 2 seasons.

It's obviously not a great measure, but Kobe's per 36 for his rookie season is 17.6 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 3.0 apg...so not too far off of what Lebron did.

Kobe also didn't play near as much in his last 2 seasons because he was coming back from a blown Achilles.

Obviously, Lebron is the better player. But the gap isn't as big as some like to think, imo.

These number are from basketballreference.com. LeBron- # 4 all time at 27.1. Kobe- # 12 all time at 24.99.
