You just pointed out the fundamental difference of what needs to be done when producing a series as opposed to a movie.

Please know that I don't watch the show so I may be a little ignorant on what you mean by "Change course"

A series always has this challenge of trying to keep you entertained for each episode while making little or no progress to the main story line. You could argue that they drag the story out on purpose because it's good business.

But that is the rub. It's really hard to do this and a lot of shows lose their audience along the way.

That is Modern TV, I grew up on shows that had very little overall story arc, so either modern viewers are so how inferior or it is a Directing trip to Hook a Viewer...
