well, we can agree to disagree ...

because you talking about tracking ... i dont see it

all I see is speed.

I prefer Garcon who

  1. willing to put his body on line to win
  2. does not miss games
  3. has leverage for a fade which the coach wont stop running
  4. can block for the running game
  5. is reliable and your go to guy for a sure completion on 3rd down

I prefer Jackson who

1. Is a better player

That said I do love Garcon and his toughness but if its one or the other, Im taking the more talented guy.

Gun to my head, give me Jackson, but Garçon is the heart and soul of this team.

i hope we dont have to turn this into a one or the other decision

I think its a little late for that. I'd like the Skins to keep both and if our resident capologist are correct. It appears the Skins have the funds to do so. Hell, I hope we retain everyone from the offensive side of the ball that's a contributor. I'd like to see what this offense could be truly capablle of with a decent defense.

Can you imagine how many points we could score if we actually possessed the ball as much as our opponent? Philly had the ball almost twice as long as we did. IF we had 2 or 3 more possessions, we might have put up 40 against them. Of course that would mean we could stop someone on a 3rd and long.

DJAX scares other teams. They have to game plan for him. PG does not.

No but Garcon does lots of other things well that contribute to the team which is equally as important. I will be happy if they keep either or even both. Beyond that I believe that for Jackson it is more a factor of his desire rather than that of the Redskins (unless they pay him through the roof which would be ill advised).

Who did the Skins go to on 4th down with the game on the line?

I agree with you. That is what these guys don't get. Jackson asking price is going to be through the roof. I don't believe SM will overpay for him even if he breaks the record. Yes Jax has the big plays but PG is the more well rounded WR. If Synder was still in charge of FA then Jackson will be back but with SM calling the shots PG should be back.

We can afford to sign both but I'm thinking it's likely we won't. Just my opinion but it's also one shared by Keim who tends to get it right more often than not.

Excerpt

Wherever Jackson goes next season will be discussed for a little while. The Redskins know it will be too expensive to keep Jackson and fellow receiver Pierre Garcon, and both proved their value Sunday.

For Jackson, it’s about speed. He’s not going to lose it over the next three weeks. In the next three years, who knows? That’s irrelevant for now. All that matters to Washington is that he provides an opportunity to make big plays and help fuel the playoff chase.

It makes zero sense to put so much cap space into Kirk, Garcon and DJax with so many holes on defense. Those wanting both back, let me introduce you to pretty much the same defense next year.

Lets get rid of our best player so we can "hopefully" get some more best players .... on the other side of the ball this time?

He is clearly one of them. Sportster is right. Addition thru subtraction doesn't make you a better team.

Ok - question for all of you. I believe that Jackson has about a $9M cap hit & Garcon a $10 M hit. What is the maximum that you would agree to for each. Granted both of them may restructure to lesson the impact, but I just want to see how much you think they should pay max for each.

Not the best. Jackson made a great play adjusting to the ball. He beat man to man coverage on that deep play. The Eagles didn't even have safety help on him which is confusing. just like Kiem said we probably won keep both.

I think that Barry switched to coaching the Eagles during that series - j/k

There is this little thing called a salary cap. Within that cap, we have a GM who has made it a public point, that he absolutely will not over pay one player at the expense of the greater good. Rebuilding this defense will not come cheaply, nor will any attempts to retain the current offensive roster. While we certainly hope to make some positive moves in the draft, there are also players in free agency that may be targeted as less expensive replacements for current starters. This, I'll point out, Could be most telling at positions like OL, RB and WR..

What I am firmly convinced of at this point is, that under SM, this team will no longer exhaust the entire cap for an upcoming season. We are no longer that team that becomes inflexible because of cap restraints. That said, with respect to the Garcon v. Jackson debate, both will either sign very cap friendly contracts ( possibly one year deals) or both will be let go. While I'm sure that many here would love to have one or both back because of what each currently brings. I can see easilly replacing both and having no drop off in production offensively. Maybe improvement. It's a young man's game, 30-31 year old WR's may serve an immediate need, but in the long term, that is beyond 31-32, the NFL generally moves on.

BTW: Garcon turns 31 in August and Jackson just turned 30 this month.
