Hell, WE could use Whiteside tonight. the Nuggets are DESTROYING us in the paint...

Whiteside will be featured, and will be a monster.
If teams choose to double him, which they should, then it's on the others to make them pay.

Nice win for the Lakers - I am beginning to think I won't be changing the channel nearly as often discussed which is really good because I am tired of Storage Wars reruns:lol:

want to know what is hilarious to me?

these idiots who keep saying the Cavs should pay Jr Smith whatever he wants- when his next best offer is 9 million a year from the Celtics. lol.....

yah.....negotiate against yourself- and give a guy way more money than the market dictates... GOOD IDEA. lol....thats how you get Timo Mozgov for 4 years and $64 million dollars or Evan Turner and 4 years 70 million or Fournier and his insane contract.

Cavs are doing exactly what they should be doing- being patient- offering a fair deal that is at or near the top of the market for his services- but not negotiating against themselves and just burning cash.

If JR is smart, he signs 1 yr/11 mill and walk in the summer. If he knew Cleveland was going to be this cheap, he would have found another team to go there in July when money was being thrown around like we were at a strip club. He could have easily got a 3 yr/39 deal in the offseason after his last 2 years in Cleveland.

If Tyler Johnson was getting 4 yr/50 million from Brooklyn, I'm pretty JR could have got a similar offer.

Yeah, Cleveland did the same thing to JR they did with TT.

They told everyone and anyone that would listen that they were going to resign their player no matter what.

So the other 29 teams move on and focus their attention elsewhere (not wanting to be someone elses leverage). Meanwhile, Rich Paul chooses not to pursue offers from other teams to use for leverage knowing that that would come with bad PR and also knowing that they don't really need more leverage with LeBron in their corner.

Then Cleveland lets time pass... and is like "hmm... no other options for you... we'e gonna lowball you".

Then Rich Paul is all like "um... no... you need this guy... you know he could've gotten other offers if he tried... your fans will be pissed... and more importantly LeBron will be pissed if you don't get this done... we're cool waiting"

If JR is smart he does what I suggest. Play Cleveland game with them. Only agree to a 1 year deal, have a good season, and leave next summer. He already got his title anyway.

I think the cavs would be ECSTATIC to get Smith on a 1 year deal. Especially since he will turn 32 next offseason. I just dont know how much of a market there is for a guy over 30 who has shown he needs to be in the right situation to play at his highest level.

2 years ago the Knicks were trying to get off of 1 year$6M of JR's contract. Now you think some other team is gonna give him a big time multi year deal? Just does not seem likely to me.

Probably your best post of all-time and that's not a knock on you, gordon as you're a quality poster. But you hit it out of the park.

This is why I fault athletes for taking Rich Paul seriously as an agent. His intentions are tied to Lebron's success, it's not tied into what's best for JR Smith.

Evan Turner just got $70 mil over 4 years. You're telling me that JR Smith can't get $13 mil per for 3 years? GTFOH.

Cleveland's smart in this situation given that JR has no options now that the extra money that existed in the market has just about dried up. As Turnup mentioned, Tyler Johnson got $50 mil from the Nets before Miami was forced to match. And although I think Johnson has potential, I'd rather take JR Smith's production next year.

This also debunks that whole Gilbert is willing to spend any money that he wants. It's a smart move that he's not overpaying JR Smith in retrospect because of luxury tax penalties. But you're in win now mode if you're the Cavs, what other player are you going to get to come in and play for peanuts? Because the only reason he can be signed is because of Bird Rights.

Evan Turner got $70 million and Mozgov got $64 million. Apparently you overestimate some GM's out there.

brooklyn had no choice. they have no talent, and tons of cap space and have traded away as many of theird raft assets as possible...they decided to offer a deal to a young guy they thought might have upside. Though- i certainly queestion there sanity as nothing I have seen Johnson do leads me to believe he is anything more than a bench player--- but that is neither here nor there.

you think brooklyn - in the middle of a rebuild is gonna offer a huge deal to a SG who is over 30 and has proven that when he is in a bad losing situation things can get rough? not likely.

when you actually do your home work and try and find scenarios and situations where other teams might pursue Smith- you see a couple things- A. many of those teams already have SG under contract, B. many of those teams dont have cap room. and C. if you are not ready to compete- there is no need for Smith- which disqualifies about half the teams right from the get go.

Which teams out there do you actually think would give Smith the type of deal he is seeking?---

Atlantic Divison:
Celtics- maybe- but dont have the cap room
Knicks- he just left there
Tor- no need with demar
Nets- rebuild- no need
Sixers- rebuild- no need

Central:
Cavs- duh
Bulls- no need- Dwade at SG
Bucks- no need- Middleeton at SG
Pacers- Montae Ellis already
Pistons- have KCP who they drafted and developed

Southeast-
Hawks--- korver
hornets- batum
magic- drafted Hezonja
heat- rebuilding
wizards- beale

warriors- klay thompson
lakers- rebuilding
clippers- jj redick
suns- rebuilding
kings---- really? anyone think itsa good idea he goes to the Kings? lol

mavs- wesley mathews
rockets- Harden
grizz- no cap room
pels--- a possibility
spurs- seem like a spurs type player? have danny green on a long term deal anyway

nugz- rebuilding
twolves- wiggins- their future
thunder-oladipo just traded for
blazers- crabbe just got a huge deal
jazz- ??? signed Joe Johnson- and can u really see Jr Smith signing in UTAH? lol

i mean- out of all these teams - the only one i think makes any sense really is the Pelicans. Most teams are either A. rebuilding, or B. already have a starting SG and many of those SG's are guys on big time deals where you wouldnt just sign another guy- like a Wes MAthews in Dallas.

i just dont see situations that fit.

if you are in a rebuild- you dont sign a 32 year old guard that wants a long term deal

many of the teams that might be interested- dont have cap room- and/or dont have an opening at Sg.

its just simple market economics.
