Leaving your best pitcher on the bench in hopes of getting a lead is a sure way to lose the game.

As soon as the Jays got their first hit, Ubaldo should have been gone.

Both of these teams aren't good enough to win it all, but it sure would have been nice to try against an overrated Texas team.

Exactly this isn't game 1 of a best of 5. Its win or go home. You can't risk Ubaldo losing the game for you. If you're going to lose that inning, it better have been with Britton on the mound

Ironic that they played Bourn for his defense and his missed that ball down the line. Probably cost them the game.

I don't think so. I think the inability to keep from swinging at pitches WAAAYYY out of the strike zone cost the O's the game.

Ubaldo flat out was untouchable and redhot versus Toronto last week.

it was the right move to go to Ubaldo. It just backfired. That happens.

Buck had an unwinnable hand because his offense could not even get to a full count once all night..not once...

He made every move fucking perfectly for 11 innings.

Buck was A+ tonight.
The Jays GIDP to end the inning three times. He wasn't smart, he was lucky.

Anyone blaming this on Buck Showalter or Ubaldo hasn't watched any Orioles games

What can you do??

You score 2 freaking runs in 11 innings. 28 of the 33 batters swung at the first pitch.

The Orioles are flawed. They swing like idiots at every single pitch.

You can shut them down completely by throwing junk on pitch #1 every single time.

I'm going to slightly disagree. I think it probably messed with Ubaldo going back to the pen since he'd gotten used to starting again and had to change his routine. But I think we all agree, Britton should've been in the game to start this inning and try him for two innings if need be, then maybe use Ubaldo or Bundy if the game got extended after that.

Overrated Texas team???? Didn't know baseball had rankings - there is an ESPN Power Poll which has the Red Sox #1 and Rangers #2 in the AL. Not sure how you can say the best record after 162 games is overrated. Neither your O's or Blue Jays have a chance against Texas.

If I was a pitcher, that's all I'd throw to Adam Jones. The guy swings at everything within 5 feet of the plate. Same goes with Davis. While I don't agree with using Duensing or Ubaldo that inning and Britton shouldn't have been there, you're right about this loss being on the offense. They hit another slump at a time when they could ill afford it.

not blaming them for the lose but he didn't put them in the best position to win the game. u cant leave your best pitcher on the bench, waiting for later in the game in a winner takes all. he has to be hurt. that is the only explanation that makes any sense at all. thankfully we had the tbs telecast that never even mentioned his name

Britton has been shaky in non save opportunities. I have watched every pitch he has thrown for the last 3 years.

He sucks at non-save work.

He is one of those guys who has to be in his personal rhythm.

Heck, he looked like crap in his last outing versus NY in the 8th inning when Buck tried to use him out of sync.

He is a guy that simply does one thing well.

I don't blame Buck. Ubaldo was lights out dominant and our best pitcher for the last month.

He has been unhittable and his win versus Toronto last week is the only reason Baltimore got this far.

I blame Adam Jones, Machado, Schoop....and the merry band of free swinging idiots.

Fuck Adam Jones especially, because he is a dick as well. He is a total douche at the stadium.
Ubaldo? Come on, the manager shouldn't be the biggest homer in the stadium falling prey to hot hand fallacy. If you want to use him after 2-3 innings of Britton, fine, but Britton was the last true shutdown reliever left in the pen in a do or die game, use him.

Britton had to face Edwin. Maybe even start the inning.

The other moves were the right ones. But with a guy on 3rd you need your best pitcher in

O's went 3-4 vs Texas.
Jays went 4-3 vs Texas.
Texas has worse pitching that the O's, and a worse bullpen.
Sorry, but the Rangers are the epitome of overrated.

Doesn't matter, because pretty much everybody expects the Rangers to beat the Blue Jays, get crushed by the red sox, who will lose to the Cubs.

Yes the offense deserves blame, but in one of the very few baseball games a manager really can impact a game either way, Buck dropped the ball on this one.
