From what I'm seeing from people I think people are more upset by the fact that Rey just blew by any obstacle she faced right out the gate and didn't show any weakness. Obviously she's special but I think most people are arguing that they made her too powerful and thus it's not interesting to watch.

She learned to handle herself with fighting skills growing up on Jakku. She also can handle a speeder, learned ship engineering and piloting them. And she's obviously heavy with latent force capabilities. Some of them, she could sense she had. The look on her face when Ren tried to seriously interrogate her mind on the star killer said it all. It was "F off buddy. Your not getting in there this time." And as soon as he bails utterly shocked at how powerful she was, she starts pulling a Jedi mind trick on a storm trooper to let her go. She's extremely powerful already, she just isnt refined with it all yet. But she appears aware she has abilities, but doesnt have them remotely mastered.

Something some are missing is how she kept asking and telling people she needed to return to Jakku. It's why she even turned down Han Solos offer to work on the Falcon even though she loved the idea of it.

She could of left there a long time ago with her skills and obviously longed to leave, but appears she was instructed to stay there when she was a child and would be picked up by a parent or relative one day when it was safe.

Just gonna have to wait 2 years to get some more answers about her heritage and how powerful she truly is. If both her parents had strong force ability, Boom.

As if it was a subconscious "need" to stay/return there.

Only a year and a half actually. Episode VIII comes out May 2017

Didn't know that. That's great news. Although we'll be a getting some SW next year with Rogue One.

I know that while J.J. Abrams will not be in a director role for VIII, he'll still be one of the oversears of the script and production. Reports are the script is already in advanced stages and pre-production is ramping up.

Man, been thinking about what I saw last night all day long today. Soo glad it turned out so good. Totally satisfied.

From what I've read Abrams gave Rian Johnson(the director of episode 8 and writer of 8 & 9) his layout of where he would take the characters and his general story arc but it'll be Johnson's decision on whether he wants to follow it or not.

Biggest gripe was the continuation of the Kessel run in 12 parsecs line.

I guess they doubled down on that?

If places like a Jedi Temple or Sith Tombs could be strong with the force, shouldn't that mean objects could as well? Especially something as intimate as a lightsaber? Buildings are not living either.

That's a solid perspective and parallel. The Jedi Temple and Sith Tombs are not necessarily force sensitive themselves, but they do resonate the force because of the force sensitive living beings who inhabit(ed) those buildings. So it could be that the lightsaber is not necessarily force sensitive, but does resonate the force because of its force sensitive owner.

There now listing all the cameos that were in Star Wars that couldn't be know cause masks were on, they were motion captured CGI creatures, or they were so brief you didn't catch them right away.

Daniel Craig (yes, James Bond) was the storm trooper that Rey mind controls. Wow.
Billie Lord, Carrie Fishers daughter, was a rebel alliance computer operator.
Simon Pegg (Scottie from new Star Trek movies) was the junk buyer on Jakku.
Greg Grunberg (Heroes, Lost, Alias shows that Abbrams was involved in) is rebel pilot Snap Wexley
Harriet Walter is Christopher Lee's niece and plays the rebel Dr who patched up Chewbacca.
Two cast members from the movie "The Raid" we're one of space pirate gangs, Kanjiklub. Yayan Ruhian and Iko Uwais.

I must be the only guy on Earth who didn't notice Obi-Wan's voice. I was watching it in IMAX too.

I heard Obi-Wan's voice but I missed Yoda's. I was surprised to read they were both in that hallucination scene.

I was hoping JJ Abrams would let his political leanings dominate the story line, but he did and it just becomes unbearable. The force awakens? The force seems to be more of a myth considering how weak and embarrassing they made Ren.

The obvious PC thing with the woman being a bad ass and the of course the black guy just having natural ability to wield a Saber with NO training. Well, he is black so it should surprise us....I guess was the message? If that was not the message, then what was it the point?

Disappointed and I was really looking forward to Abrams. Yes, he is ultra liberal and he did a decent job of keeping his leanings out of the star trek movies.

Imo he sort of jumped the shark with this.

Just read that in the vision, Obi-Wan says just one word "Rey". How they did it was the audio editors working on the film used a recording of Alec Guiness saying the word "afraid" during some dialogue. They then chopped off the ends to get just the part were Rey is pronounced. That's how they did it. It was his real voice.

They also said it was something they thought up on their own and presented it to Abbrams as a suggestion. He loved it so he put it in the movie.

They haven't even released it in some markets like China yet. They probably kept China out for a couple weeks to minimize the pirate copies during Dec. As soon as they release it there, then full high quality versions will flood the torrent sites and digital copies will be being sold in all their stores.

China will still had many millions more to the legit revs.
