Joe Angel has a similar voice to Miller -- but more animated. I like him. His biggest claim to fame is that he was the quarterback on O.J. Simpson's high school team.

He does have similar jumps and tone in his voice to Miller, i like that old time sound. Jim Hunter i dont mind but Thorne is out of water in baseball, hes better at hockey. That's funny about Angel, i guess he grew up in the SF area.

I can definitely see how they sound similar. I usually just watched the games on HTS/ComcastSportsNet. When it was still considered a pay network, I usually tried to watch the games scrambled.

Thorne has been the same since he was a sideline-type reporter when ABC did MLB back in the 80's. Ironically, he was more of a sidekick to Jim Palmer and Al Michaels. He makes more miscalls than anyone I've ever heard. Yeah ... Joe usually tells that story about his QB days, once a season -- or used to.

I went to Maryland in the early 90s and remember HTS and WBAL tv on in the dorms. I was a freshman in 89 when they almost won the AL east the last weekend.

Ha! I remember that year. Last series of the season vs the Blue Jays was the deciding factor. Wasn't there a pitcher on that O's squad who was living in a trailer park before that season who had a magical ride? He didn't play much (if any) beyond that season.. but I remember a lot was made of his success.

And I think WBAL was the station I listened to as well. Rings a bell.

Ahhh ... you were there during the idiotic Bob Wade years that nearly ruined Terp basketball. HTS was fun to watch with Brother Low and Mel Proctor. I think Brooks and John Miller called TV games back then, too.

I went to UMBC in the early 90s but, bizarrely enough, listened to more Oriole games when I was home in Germantown during summer break. Ahh.. college days..

Not forgetting that this game Gonzo issued no walks, even if he gave up 7 hits. Think Tedman might have something here about 'framing pitches'.. Joseph has been a nice little pick-me-up for this team.

No i was a freshman during Garys first year but i had no NCAA tournaments thats for sure. I remember walking through Cole when the sanctions came down and seeing all the news media. Seeing ACC hoops was fun nonetheless. And i do remember Proctor on hts and Miller on BALtv.
