Thoughts on pursuing Carmelo in the offseason

What do you guys think of LA possibly chasing Melo in the offseason? I think he is a really good player but im not sure there would work with Kobe as they both need the ball in their hands and Melo iso's a lot. BTW: I AM NOT SAYING WE WILL GET MELO, JUST SPECULATING ON THE POSSIBILITY THE LAKERS GO AFTER HIM. I think Melo is really screwed in NY with a broken down Amare and sorry JR SMith and that even with Phil going there he might walk.

Here's the key though, do we want a reunion of Melo & Dumbtoni ? we saw how that relationship ended in NY. I say this because we don't know if Dumbtoni will be fired yet, since short Buss is a big advocate of Dumbtoni. Many questions need to answered during this off season, it's going to be very interesting, as Kobe also want's to win now.

Thats why I raise the question of Carmelo because Kobe is in win now not rebound mode. Im really hopeful that Pringles is gone when the season ends!

I just don't think Carmelo would help foster a positive chemistry on the Lakers. I see a conflict between Kobe and Carmelo. I'd pass on Carmelo and look elsewhere.

I agree as they both need the ball in their hands and would lead to conflict. But Kobe wants to win now and who else can we realistically chase and please dont say Lebron lol

I have 2 thoughts on the Lakers going after Melo:

Only at a significant discount. Max contract and you are paying Melo around $25mil/season. No way.

I'd love to have him but no more than $15m per, MAX. But knowing Melo he won't want to take a pay cut.

If the Lakers could get him at a significant discount, I'd be okay with it. I still wouldn't be a huge fan of it, but it would be much easier to accept.

That obviously may not be possible to get them all - but could you imagine this lineup? Who could you ever double team? We'd have 4 guys who can shoot the 3.

If the Lakers keep on with this little winning streak, you can forget about a top high draft pick, we could be out of the top 10 easily.

Yep. A few more games like that and you can probably X Exum, and insert Smart. Don't think he will be the player that Exum will be though.

Exum has already stated he is willing to sit out a year in order to sign with the Lakers. So, that would play into our hands when we sign KLove in 2015, we also bring Exum. Kendall Marshall and Jordon Farmar get an extra year of experience for great years in 2015 and 2016.

You know what, if we can get him at a discounted price, then I guess I wouldn't mind it. Kobe is just going to have to understand this....if Melo wants max money, then we can't just cave in and give it to him just because Kobe wants to win now. However, my guess is that the Bulls clear enough money and get him

If Kobe presses the Lakers braintrust about winning now too much when they are obviously moving toward a rebuild mode of a five year plan, we may see Kobe gone as a mutual agreement because Kobe has already made it clear he doesn't want to be a part of any rebuilding program and he doesn't want to play for Don'tknowi. Those are two hefty demands and he may demand himself right out of LA if he keeps pushing those two issues. I'd like to see him stay but I have seen stranger developments in this league!

I can understand where Kobe is coming from as he is getting older BUT im not sure chasing Carmelo helps us rebuild... Hell we had Dwight last year and didnt win so getting carmelo is not going to automatically make us better

Kobe has said that the Lakers have a plan to get back in contention within the next 2 years and seems confident that they can do it, even with what they gave him in his last contract.

And I still haven't seen where Kobe has ever said that he doesn't want to play for D'Antoni. The only thing I've heard him say was that he's not sure D'Antoni's had a fair shake.
