Back to the thread: Here is a good question for the Negative Nellies. Which team(s) benefit the most from a good bowl season by the Big12 conference as a whole?

A) Texas
B) The top 3 teams in the league
C) The bottom 3 teams in the league
D) Doesn't matter

I really look forward to the conference basher on this one.

For all the same reasons Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt remain in the SEC. Show me the money.

OH, the error of my ways, 4-8 with no bowl is MUCH better than 9-4 with a bowl loss to FSU, right Jim?

Are you really comparing the B12 to the Gawd awful BE? Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah that truly is hilarity.

I am looking at a team getting worse each week and each year, and "fans" on here supporting the "coach" who is responsible for the losses to Kansas and IAST. Yes, losing to OU or Texas is understandable, but losing to the dregs of ANY league is unacceptable. WVU is just a few years removed from BEATING the SEC, ACC, B12 champions in bowls, beating SEC, ACC, B12, etc teams in the regular season. NOW because we have a sorry coach, you guys are saying the only reason WVU won before was playing poor teams, :bullshit:, WVU has played a strong schedule for years, and has won, trying to belittle the past to justify present failure is utterly ridiculous.

The BE hadn't put out an utterly strong schedule since VPI, Miami and BC bolted. It is humorous that you associate one game a year (the BCS games) with trying to compete in a big boy conference week in and week out. We came from a relatively weak ground and pound conference to a relatively strong air raid conference. That is going to take some time to adjust. It's not like its a BCS game with 6 weeks to prepare. Jesus take your head out of your ass and wake up.

UH....... Just a few years ago, in one season, WVU, RU, UL, USF were all top 10 teams during the year...... Think about this. WVU THIS YEAR, beat OSU, played to a tie with Texas, played with OU, BUT got manhandled by KANSAS, and got the shit kicked out of them by MARYLAND. The B12 is NOT the SEC, guys, yes there are three or four pretty good team, but the bottom of this league is HORRIBLE. AND WVU LOST to the bottom of the league. Holgorsen has a TON to learn about being a HC, he is NOT ready for prime time. It is you guys who are trying to justify the blowout losses (even when in the BE with Holgorsen) who have your head squarely planted.

I'm certainly not justifying loses. But you seriously can not compare the BE to the B12 competition wise. Nor can you compare having 6 weeks to prepare for a bowl game vs a tough opponent to playing week in and week out in a tough conference. Sure the loses to KU and for a smaller part ISU (although I think we just let off the gas then gave up vs ISU) were bad. But we have had bad losses before in a much worse conference. Plus we are playing with the power houses teams as you stated. That's what happens when you are in a power conference like we are.

I'm going to regret responding, buuuuuutttttttttttt, the SEC is not solid from top to bottom either. Bama and LSU maintain a status quo, while Kentucky, Mississippi State, and typically Vandy are bottom feeders. Taking A&M or Mizzou out of this conversation, for now, the balance of the conference provides good competition. Florida was better in past years than they were this year, Auburn was poor last year and did what they had to do to win games this year. Georgia was good, Vols still on the short end Arky still reeling from Petrino.

Ralphie - you are wasting your time attempting to convince Poppy. All that you have stated has been written before and it doesn't matter to him. He has a hatred for Luck and Holgorsen has blinded his rational thinking about the change in conference and what it takes. He sees that we have some talent, but not depth and talent. I wish you luck in your discussion with Poppy.

Mad, for once I agree, EVERY conference has good, as well as shitty teams, and right now, WVU would be shitty in ANY league. Holgorsen will have in place next year what he wants for the team, lets see how the team does, another loss to KU and IAST will mean he has failed, and HAS to go. I think this year WVU would have been a middle of the pack CUSA team, would have lost to BGSU and NILL from the MAC, would have been near the bottom of the ACC, AAC, B11, PAC, SEC.

Poppy - WVU would be a bottom feeder in the SEC and the lower end of the middle of the ACC pack this year for all the same reasons that we are where we are in the Big XII. We would have had the same record whether it is Holgy or Stewart. I'm not sold that Stewart would have throttled Clemson the same way that Holgy did, but that is my speculation based on Stewart not going for the jugular in some of the games he was HC.

As a simple reminder, I could care less what anybody rates me on these boards. It's all a manner of opinion. I suppose that you agreed with my first paragraph; however, you are feeling some type of way about my second one. Sharing my opinion. When you throw out BS and get challenged on it, most people will look at stats and other reference materials to make a decision. Since you do not believe anything placed before you, then whatever. If we would have beaten either Kansas or Iowa State, you would not have been satisfied unless it was double digits. This program will never satisfy you as you are always changing the bar only due to the fact that Luck released your favorite coach due to his actions during the transition between the old and the new.

West Virginia has played a strong schedule for years......just felt I needed to retype that and read it over and over again...

The core powerhouse schedule of UConn, Cinncy, USF, Syracuse and Rutgers is a murders row for sure!...

I am trying to figure out if he is saying it was tougher than the schedule we play now, since really that is the only thing that matters.

Oh how I wish I could get to some of those old CBS threads, I posted on there way before DH was thought about how the recrutiting style at the time was going to catch up with us....really did not matter what conf we were going to be in the fact we had a two year period where 52% of the recruits never showed up on campus killed us. It is what it is.....

I just find it humorous, that one bad season gives the whole resume. If there is one thing I would critique it's the number of JUCO's that Wv has on its roster..IMHO it has been caused by the ripple effect of the numer of coaching changes over the last 5 plus years...I hope that as the program goes forward that it dwindles down to 5 at most...can't build a program in kids with 2 years of eligibilty and think you can sustain a winning program...

I was watching the Cotton Bowl, great game BTW....that OSU has 27 Seniors on their roster and 24 of them, if not starting get significant playing time...if they go .500 or worse next year will DAD say that OSU is in a Tailspin?...

depth depth depth truly the key dont care who caused it it has to be rebuilt and juco aint gonna solve it short term or long term failed policy imo sacrifice has to occur somewhere and that may mean losing record for 2-3 years we end 4-8 holgerson gone and we start over

I guess I still don't understand the lack of love Holgerson...He clearly is a guy that is willing to make changes when necassary...he saw that Deforest was not ready for a DC job and made a change for the better...the hire of Gibson can't be overlooked....I like the staff he has built...they need another year...or two to build some cohesion....

No matter what you feel, Holgerson didn't forget how to coach offense all of a sudden...

Well, due to lack of retention or kids failing to meet entrance requirements from the 2009 and 2010 recruiting classes, Dana was left with a low numbers of upperclassmen. I believe that is why he has hit the JUCO route so hard to build depth. He stated many times, the depth has now been rebuilt, and he can start redshirting kids... which he was able to do this fall.

The JUCO's who were targeted this recruiting season, have been identified on need basis.

Not worried all that much about the offense under Holgorsen , we need a QB and the OLine needs to come of age but his track record speaks for itself there, its just a matter of time and getting the players here. Now, that said, defense is a horse of a different color. I think this years Baylor team is near the final product that DH is striving for and while that IS fun to watch, I'm not sold on that style being what we are all looking for long term. The last two seasons the defense has went from non existent to a few flashes yet still awful. Bottom line is, the defense must get better or it will not matter what the offense does, the loses will mount, remember, this conference was in reload/rebuild mode last year from all the QB loses, its going to get better.

Don't discount the JUCOS. Auburn is playing its second NC game with a JUCO QB.

Who knows, Skylar may make the difference for us next year.
