Feliz should throw better after full recovery from TJ. Remember that CJ Wilson and Joe Nathan both had the same surgery. Nathan is better then ever and CJ is Way better then before the TJ. Only with Feliz the Rangers are going to have to wait for awhile. A 2 Yr Recovery Cycle.

Feliz's secondary stuff is average at best and he loses the ability to find the strike zone with regularity. He'll never be a great starter IMO.

That's kind of an unfair prediction considering the great work he was doing before getting hurt. Until proven otherwise I still think he could be an ace.

We shall see. I don't think he was that great.

Minus the walks, he was pretty good

His walks drive me crazy. Even moreso than Darvish's because Darvish is good enough to do a little tap dance and work out of it. Feliz let it hurt him. Like I said though, we shall see.

3.16 ERA after 8 starts is pretty damn good for his first year. He's still only 24. His walks have been the only thing that has hurt him in his career. Other than that he's been pretty much dominant.

Runs off walks don't figure into era.

you want to stay with what we had....oswalt???

cheap upgrade......very,very good deal for rangers

Yeah it is a good deal and we needed him with the injuries. However, I'm still not impressed with this trade. Necessary, yes. Exciting, no.

But, we gave up little and addressed a need. That is what the trade deadline is for.

Well, now its public.

Feliz out until 2014.

Never should have stretched him out. Just doesn't have enough stuff at the major league level. He likely will never throw with same velocity again. It is a real shame what has happened to him.

You are correct. Most guys come back with an extra MPH or two.

Romeo, don't ask me how I know this, you wouldn't believe me anyhow, but trust me on this one: Feliz will never start again for Texas. He will come back in a bullpen role, or he won't come back at all.

You don't need inside sources to know that. Feliz doesn't have the pitches to be a starter, and they won't both trying to teach them to him when he comes back. He will be a late inning reliever with a dominant fastball and changeup.

Simply not true, he has the pitches to be a starter, throwing them consistenty is his problem

Fastball command is his other, which will be a problem for him no matter what his role is

No fastball command means he usually won't won't have faith in his other pitches or have an ability to set them up

Part of his fastball command problem, as it is for many young players (Holland included), is overthrowing his fastball

Heck, I can throw a curveball but can't get it over the plate consistently. Couple that with me being able (at one time) to get up into the 80's on my fastball and could dial it down a little to have a changeup, so do I have the pitches to be a starter? Of course not, because knowing how to hold the ball and being able to control that pitch consistently is what is considered to mean "has a pitch".

Feliz is just not a starter. He's to the Rangers what Aroldis is for the Reds. A very skilled, very smooth, overpowering pitcher who can come in and put the fear of god in hitters. He showed he could do that role, and while he was very solid as a starter I just don't see him in that role.

But he can, and he has

When he has it, he's good

When he doesn't, he's not, that's any pitcher

More often than not, he had it, as evidenced by his numbers

His biggest obstacle going forward is health now, and that will be why he's not a starter, not his command, which will now suffer even more in his comeback from surgery

While I agree Feliz will probably not be a starter anytime soon, its not b/c he doesn't have the pitches
