As expected we resigned Glasgow and lost Jackson on the O-line. I figured some team would take a gamble on JJ and give him a big contract. We will be drafting IOL for sure. I would like Skipper back too. Matt Nelson can go.

Need to fill the other Guard spot still. Maybe in FA and then draft a new young guy. Stenberg is done IMO. That Kawasoki guy is just a backup

I don't love the Davenport signing. I don't love that.

Me either. Mack or Reddick would have been my choice. Better than Romeo maybe but probably not by much.

This feels like Charles Harris all over again. Different players, but same thought process to the signing.

a 3rd is a little steep for a corner in the last year of his contract coming off a down year

Depends on how his on-field play is for 2024 season and AG's penchant for the last 2-years' operating more zone coverages for the first 2/3 of the season. Granted, AG didn't have the talent he now has at his disposal - 2022 Okudah, Oruwariye, Jacobs, W. Harris all vying for outside CB positions. You cannot have continuity, chemistry and cohesion with numerous players in and out of the lineup while not having substantial reps with one another.

A DB group - CB, S, need as much chemistry working together as much as an O-Line. It takes time to learn what other players see and know in order to alleviate miscommunication and that's been persistent for years now no matter who was playing in the back 4 or 5.

Maybe Davis plays at a high level in 2024 and leaves in 2025 for a last chance at another upper-level payout - depends on if he's extended after this year, but surely do not give him an extension now - he might give Holmes a relatively decent 2026 compensatory pick in return. I'm not wishing or hoping that Davis fails by any means. I'm simply being pessimistic as we've already witnessed numerous free agents signed who have had injury issues and plenty of missed games in their past.

I don't see Holmes being ready to commit that kind of money to either player just yet. Holmes has been methodical in his approach and some fans want to see better investments in signing players that fans believe will work in their system.

Culture fit, scheme fit, locker room fit are all areas that fans have no true clue as to whether player x is what Holmes, DC and AG might or might not see as a fit for the aforementioned.

I'm not denigrating your choice of players either.

I already posted the article regarding free agency fits under Holmes' view versus drafting and getting to know those players for 3-5 years as they develop. I think fans miss the obvious that Holmes clearly states in his pressors.

Davis is definitely a low end number 1 in man coverage

He has "the ability to be a low end CB1" when he's not in one of his rollercoaster years of on-field play.

I wouldn't automatically clear him of his negative traits that has already been displayed. The same goes with any player and not just Davis.

Sutton got exposed last year because he played number 1. He will shut down most number 2s but he will struggle against guys like Jefferson and Evans. Davis makes us better for sure. Now if Mosely can still run then we might be OK.

Sutton and everybody else got exposed last year in that secondary. Kerby had an off year and especially missing assignments, and the latter is partly due to non-existent chemistry and massive miscommunication amongst all DB's.

Sutton surely won't be shutting down players like Tyreek Hill, Jalen Waddle, DeVonta Smith or Justin Jefferson and Davis probably won't become a trailing CB over all opponents WR1 either. Sutton will be exposed at times and especially in quick in-breaking or quick out-breaking intermediate routes. Some teams have multiple twitchy receivers and that's the death knell for Sutton.

Stenberg is done IMO.

He was kicked to the curb last year.
I have company in the memory department. Old School - Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell like, ehh?

He's a Utah native and the 2023 Rimington Award winner if he's available. He can start out at OG and learn the ropes from Ragnow and possibly take over for him when he decides to throw his cleats upon a powerline that dangle.

Fans will state such and such mock has him being drafted at slot NO. ?
We all know those top 50, top 100 boards are not exact or even close to it. Branch was ranked at No.8 to No. 20 last year and after the combine rested anywhere between 20-35. Myles Murphy began in the top 10 last year and was finally drafted in the late 20's. This guy, on paper, keeps the O-Line intact for years to come and cheaper for 3-5 years. Although, I could see Holmes waiting until day 2 to address the iOL.

Utah Native Jackson Powers-Johnson Wins Rimington Trophy

I assumed he meant Sorsdal. Too early to write him off, but I would not count on him for 2024 season.

I was aware of that possibility.

I'm just messing with @Old Lion
He and I go back quite a few years and he doesn't realize it just yet.

quite the protective board members especially when a seemingly unknown enters the board to make post statements.

Not just new members, I think I have had quality arguments with most in here. I have been right every time, so it is weird that they keep trying.

At a minimum, you've kept your humor and humility intact throughout the years.

Everyone knows that in your mind you're always right every time.

Holmes anticipated that the former William and Mary OT would need time to develop moving to iOL as much as Brodric Martin would need time to develop to NFL life and become a partial contributor this upcoming season - hopefully.

I like this part of Holmes having a plan down the road even though us fans sometimes want a player drafted to immediately contribute even if it's in segments.

Those 6th round picks (2024/2025) acquired in the Davis trade could very well become lucrative as much as the 4th round pick garnered in the Swift trade last year that'll be available in 2025.

Holmes did give up a 6th round pick in 2025 for the trade with Cleveland for Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Cominsky 2024 cap hit slightly reduced.

Original contract:

2024:
$5M base salary, $1.2M prorated signing bonus, $6.2 million cap hit

New contract:

2024:
$2.5M base salary, $1.7M prorated signing bonus, $4.2 million cap hit

500K of his 2024 salary is restructured into a signing bonus.

I hope Holmes doesn't have a continued repeat performance of this. Sure, it helps in the immediate cap space, but it can also lead to free agents steering clear in the future as Holmes did this exact move to rostered players C. Harris, R. Okwara and Vaitai last season. Maybe Brockers is inclusive of this also, but I can't recall being 100% sure on that.

He played in all 17 games (started 12), tallied 50 tackles, six passes defended, two interceptions, a sack, and a forced fumble. Per PFF, he allowed 40 catches on 64 targets for 445 yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions, and an 85.7 passer rating.

The above move ^^^ is a probable replacement for Chase Lucas, I'm assuming, and depth that maaaaybe Will Harris has seen his last days in the Big D.

Whether or not fans like the moves or non-moves Holmes is or isn't making, you've got to give him credit for attempting to turn over the CB group as a whole.
