Sorry to post this, but the Heat badly whiffed on Dame - In large part due to sheer arrogance

yah was really wrong about Wiseman and Whiteside.

if you have an overated cock ring of a center that has a last name that starts with W - its a good bet hes gonna suck.

guess who is still getting dem checks? Tristan Thompson. Guess who isn't? Whiteside.

Well you were wrong when you said LeBron's prime passed him up five minutes after he went to the Lakers.

You were wrong when you said LeBron's legacy was ruined because he didn't get an injured Lakers squad to the playoffs his first year in Los Angeles.

And you were wrong when you said the Cavs would turn things around before the Heat.

They never made anything close to their best offer

Ruling:

OP is correct

Actually, I don't know if it turned out to be true or not, but I seem to recall a tweet or story that showed that Miami tried to make an offer that was as good or better than what Portland got from the Bucks, but they wouldn't answer the phone.

If that is true, then OP is incorrect (as usual).

They had 2 firsts, Martin, jovic and Jacques and no report had them offering any of the latter 3

They could have added a 3rd team, but they never got a chance because the Blazers wouldn't answer the phone.

And after their first terrible bad faith offer (again proving op right) they don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt

If they threw their entire offer in, it would be a different story, they never did

Again, they never did because Portland refused to take their calls.

And lol @"bad faith offer". It's called a negotiation and you never lead with your best offer. So, "arrogance" had nothing to do with it. One team was attempting to negotiate and the other team wouldn't tell them what it was they wanted and wouldn't answer the phone.

As contentious as things got between the Lakers and the Pels during the AD trade...the negotiation didn't stop and the Pels ended up getting far more from the Lakers than their initial offer.

Both teams walked away satisfied, if not necessarily "happy", which is how it's supposed to work.

The title is wrong. Heat did not over offer for Lillard so a trade never happened. The take that it was arrogance is a terrible take.

Miami was prepared to add 1 of their young guys & Martin to the deal but Portland refused to speak to them since summer league so that was that so Miami didn't whiff.

Portland didnt want to trade dame to miami/ didn't like miami assets.

What was miami supposed to do? Force them to accept the trade?

Arrogance may be a bit strong, overconfidence is better. They thought they had a captive market with no competition.

Miami was always going to come up short without a third team (or more) getting involved, as they just didn't have the assets that Portland wanted. They got at least 1 first much sooner than what Miami could offer (with Brogdon still in hand to deal for another) and 2 future picks along with a prospect and 2 young bigs that can contribute now, while also dumping the contracts of Nurkic, Little, and Keon in the process.

I don't see it, no matter how the Heat gelt Blazers had no interest in the pieces they had to offer. If both sides are that gar apart it isn't overconfidence, its just a trade that was not going to happen.

Yep. The smooth brains who think that this is about Heat arrogance don't understand how negotiation works and/or are just seeing what they want.

If anything, Portland acted like butthurt little bitches...much like OP.

They insisted Herro had tremendous value around the league. If that was the case, they could've beaten the offer they got from MIL.

The reality is if they're smart they can turn this trade into at least 5 firsts, and that's if they keep Ayton to themselves.

I can see 4, 5 may be a bit strong. 2 so far (plus 2 pick swaps), 1 for Brogdon, 1 for Williams I assume?

Not a lot of point in keeping both Ayton and Williams, since they don't fit next to each other on the court and both should be considerable minutes per game contributors. Wasted value to keep one as a reserve IMO. Moving Williams for a pick and a solid bench big would be ideal, just like moving Brogdon for a pick and a vet reserve PG.

The fact that they could get so much more does not mean the Heat had arrogance, it means they lacked the parts to get the deal done.
