Move up to get Caleb Williams. (I went to USC so my answer is not necessarily realistic or advised. I know little on who to draft.)
That might work in 2024 I believe he will be back at USC in 2023.

Good article on what some of us were trying to tell Dean. This is more precise than what I was arguing with Dean about.

You have to rely on common sense instead of homerism and blind hope. The evidence was always there, one had to purposely ignore it.

Is wrong to hope that they finish high enough in the draft to get one of the top guys next year?
If not, and they finish in their usual place, I can't see them paying the cost to move up!
This board would go berserk at the mention of such a move.

Not at all.

You are either competing or rebuilding. The worst place to be is in the middle...which we generally are with our record. You are what your record says.

I was much more interested in setting ourselves up for success in 2023 than I was in sneaking into the playoffs. About half the NFL makes the playoffs now and we couldn't even get in this year.

I will always be in favor of doing what you need to do to get a true franchise QB. The history of the league makes it perfectly clear that it's very difficult to win a Super Bowl and be in contention year after year without one. All you need to do is see what a guy like Joe Burrow can do He went to a terrible organization and played behind the worst OL in the league and nearly won the whole thing. Now their window is as long as he is in their uniform.

With that said I think they owe it to themselves to see what they have in Sam Howell. He is not a typica 5th rounder, a year earlier he was a Heisman candidate and a top 10 pick. Then he lost his weapons and protection, but the potential is still there.

History also shows that the true way to get a franchise QB is to draft and develop. Rarely does a team give up a franchise QB. We have to stop believing that we can buy a franchise qb off of somebody’s trash heap. Find a qb in the draft that has the physical skills you need. Sam Howell is a very good candidate. But we should still draft a qb……every year until we are satisfied we have one.

typically i dont like those moves . thats just me because of the failure rate . perhaps a new owner and FO will be better

Agree with that plan:

Build the oline to protect the current qbs, see what you have in Howell, and draft a qb you like anyway.

Follow shanny’s philosophy of yearly drafting a position of need - in our case, qb - to get talent and depth.

There are only two real choices to get one of the top guys.
1. Finish with a bad W/L record.
2. Finish as usual and trade up, way up, to get one of them.

If the team doesn't finish with a bad W/L record and doesn't want to trade up in the draft to get a top guy, doesn't your plan essentially relegate the team into a position that has them hoping to strike gold Ala Brady or BaJebus forbid ending up with guys like Cousins/ Tannehill?
One other question... are you in favor of drafting QBs with our typical middle of the pack first round selection? Second round pick? Or some later round pick until they find their guy?

The key is making the right choice , Ramsey JC , shuler, RG3 , Haskins weren’t the right choices. Wince, CDC Mcnabb we’re not it either

Now you're making a compelling argument that this organization won't make the right choice, or that making one and not knowing what to do with him. Who are these geniuses that we are supposed to have so much confidence in?
Hope is a wonderful thing but success is when opportunity meets preparation. If no one is willing to take the opportunity then no matter how seemingly prepared they are, it will still end in failure. It gets worse when they pass on opportunity AND they aren't prepared for it when it presents even via a lucky strike.

That made the right choice in 2012 in the 4th round but let him walk.

When is the last time we drafted a qb not in the 1st round (Not including Howell)? It's not striking gold to find a capable qb in later rounds of the draft. You just need to know what your looking for. Its usually not the shiney new toy that Snyder seems to draft.

in the division round of the NFC we have 3 qbs starting that weren't drafted in round one . dak hurts and purdy . at least one will make the conference championship game possibly 2

what formulas did they use ? how are they winning ?

we could emulate that for now

now the whole truth is all 4 of the afc qbs are 1st rounders

Purdy? You mean Jones? And dak was a fourth round pick.
