it is insane to think the QB should have any say in the GM.

How does that question go?
So Mr. Qb. Who do you want to have as a Gm to be a yes man to you? So we can be more successful.
Also no. the team hasnt done any wrong, if that isnt in the contract.
Entitlement is an ugly thing, & he isnt entitled to make those decisions.
So, management never should have told him he'd be involved......they lied to him essentially.

OK. If he sits out the year doesn't get him any closer to being able to leave, and that's a lot of money he never gets back.
He wouldn't sit out much, the Texans would then trade him but they would miss out on this upcoming draft.

If he's willing to sit out, he'll get traded. What good does it do for Houston to shoot themselves in the foot? If he retires, refuses to report, whatever, they are in worse condition than if they traded him. They don't have a 1st or 2nd round pick currently.

Trade him to Miami for 2 2021 firsts, Tua, and another pick next year. They could even sign Fitz to caddy for Tua if they want. Use the #3 pick (Houston traded this to Miami for LT Tunsil) on WR (Chase, Smith) or OL (Sewell), then use the #18 on CB (Surtain, Horn, Farley), RB (Harris, Etienne) or OL (Darrishaw, Vera-Tucker), LB (Parsons, Owusu-Koramoah, Bolton), or maybe a DT or edge rusher to help replace Watt if he leaves too (Barmore, Ojulari, Phillips) or whatever they deem to be their biggest weaknesses.
I agree. Miami gets exactly what they need, a star QB to run the show with a great team building up around him. 2 - 1st this year along with their 2nd and probably another 2nd next year.

It is being floated around the Jets are sticking with Darnold and going to go after a WR in the draft like Smith. If this is the case, that means Justin Fields will be there at #3 and if not, you have many options, including trading down with a team that wants to jump up and take Fields or another player so they can maximize their return yet again. I would think Mac Jones could be a baller for them if they trade down to 10 to 15 range plus picking up probably another 1st or so.

the whole thing is silly. letting go of a 25 year old franchise qb is the exact opposite of rebuilding. if he goes anywhere then ownership should forced to sell the team before the fans riot and burn the stadium to the ground.
The Pittsburgh Pirates would like to have a word with you, sir.

Not really.....IF they get an offer they like (including picks from this draft) they will make the deal. But if they don't then, sure, hold onto him and hope he caves. My guess is he will with the little leverage he has.

You give the FO in Houston way too much credit.

I dont agree. If Watson sits out. Not only do the Texans not have to pay him, but they will get their cap money back.
he is already not gonna be on the field so that wouldnt change. So why just trade him because he wants them too.
Houston should only trade him if the trade is in the texans advantage.

otherwise. Let him rust!
We shall see
But they don’t get all the cap money back just his salary for that year or I’ll have to look does it all accelerate into 1 year ?

Nope...just looking at the facts. Texans can go on without him and the owners will still be rich. while Watson is still rich guessing he doesn't want to be paid nothing for a year (and incur fines on top).

And he's worth 24 million before the extension even kicks in.....I could see him sitting out training camp and such to show he's serious, thus possibly spurring the Texans into making a trade.

Guessing they probably know he's serious. But serious enough to not get his salary? Too bad O'Brien not there...he may have already moved him for Darnold and a 3rd.

I agree, but it's going to be a battle of wills. We've seen teams cave in and we've seen players cave in on these types of battle. If I'm Houston I would look at offers, maybe counter some offers, if you can find a deal that makes football sense do it, otherwise hold tight. I would not consider a discount trade.

Well if he so rich he could offer the entire signing back to the team......if he's that rich and that serious. That won't happen. What does sitting out training camp do for him? You say he can afford the fines, well here is how they add up:

The new CBA raised the maximum fine for skipping training camp from $40,000 per day to $50,000 per day, but fines for players who are still on their rookie contracts are capped at $40,000 per day as long as they're not in their fifth-year option season.

So if you miss ten days that a half a million, 20 days would be a million, 30 days would be 1.5 million. Also these fines can't be waived like in the past.

There is a new rule in the CBA that prohibits teams from doing that. In Article 42, Section 1(vi) and 1(vii) it reads, "Any such fines shall be mandatory, and shall not be reduced in amount or waived by the Club, in whole or in part, but must be paid by the player or deducted by the Club.

I've seen the 24 million net worth but I have also seen way less net worth. What we know for a fact is that his rookie contract was worth 13.84 million in total. Then minus taxes and minus agent fee, then minus what ever he has spent........maybe this number is more accurate:

As of 2021, Deshaun Watson’s net worth is roughly $4 Million.

To me that sounds more accurate then the 24 million figure given what his rookie contract was worth and figuring in taxes and agent fees. Also I'd bet he's spent a good portion of that to boot.

When he sits out 5-6 days, they'll see he is serious and work out a trade......that is if they don't trade him before the draft.

When he sits up 5-6 days and Houston doesn't budge he'll realize their serious and report.

They'd be morons not to trade him before the draft with how good this draft is.
Cost them 16 million in cap space and 21 million in dead money if they trade him before June 1st, you think that is smart? Lets not kid our self money matter to both parties and money wise trading him before the draft make no sense. So either they get a offer that makes it worth eating all this money or they hold tight. Not a lot of teams can afford to make that kind of offer and it's dubious if it would be wise to do so. FYI if he gets traded to the Jets the state of New York has a 8.82 % state income tax for those making over a million a year vs Texas who has no state income tax. Bet NY is not on the list of teams that Watson would agree to be traded for. I don't see a trade happening because money matter to both sides.

This is true, but if they decide they don't want to move him - or don't get what they want - what's he gonna do? Retire?
Who knows...I don’t think it would come to that bc how does that makes Houston look in the future, not good and they get no assets for a top QB. That would be a stupid move but it is Houston lol

Sure get no value for a top 5 QB. That sounds like a Texans move! LOL

You actually think he would pass on getting his big payday? 156 million I think? No way in hell would he do that.
