My response that you referred to was addressing if he had gotten regular playing time though.

it seems that what he has gotten lost in is bad decision making.

Or it just been determined that he's not very good, extended look or not

There's plenty of people that make their living doing this that have been saying this about Ryan Rua for a long time

I think if you have him, Robinson and IKF on your bench, you're pretty happy, if they're starting maybe not so much

But they're versatile, talented players in a vacuum

Guzman also hasn't had 600 ML plate appearances to establish himself as more than a .246 hitter

I already agreed with you about Robinson, don't know why you brought him up
Because he is going to play 2B now while IKF moves to 3B.

Looking back, Rua has had two opportunities to play close to an everyday basis in at least a 30 game stretch since he has been here. In the first stretch he hit .295 and in the second one he hit .318. The first one he was coming off playing everyday in the minors and in the second stint in 2016 he started playing almost everyday after starting in only 12 of the team's first 32 games.

That second time he had a slash line of .318/.419/.580. His OPS that time was .999. He played in 26 of 30 games. He has never disappointed when given regular playing time for an extended period of anything close to playing in 25 out of 30 games played by the team.

The way the Rangers have used him has created an unwarranted bias amongst some fans when they look at his overall numbers and fail to take into account how he has been used for the most part.

So look at the 38 or so games that suit your argument or the other 200 or so that say the contrary?

Look, I like Ryan Rua but he's an average player and he's shown that time and again, but he can play a lot of positions and put one in the stands on occasion, good bench player, average at best starter

I only brought him up because their decision today goes along with the overall topic. I wasn't trying to counter what you thought about Robinson. I just didn't want to make a separate post for that one sentence.

Sounds like to me that Gallo is being groomed for LF to keep Guzman at 1B and IKF and Profar somewhere in the IF until Andrus and Odor return. If someone could get Odor back to where he was 2 years ago that would be great but so far that is not happening.

Gallo looked a little lost playing LF esp with routes and balls off the wall. If his future is 3rdB let him play it now and keep IKF at 2nd

Bush to RR is a pretty damn shocking turn.

Not to me. He got lucky last night and stopped challenging good hitters. Work on some pitches and reboot. I am good with that

Also, we are going to need a lot of rotation relievers with no SP eating innings

Thus the word "groomed". They have a weakness at that position (LF) and you have Andrus, Odor, Profar and IKF as infielders. Already someone will get the short straw and if you put Gallo there then two will be out of luck. If grooming Gallo for LF is what they are doing, and I am cannot be sure of that, then I understand why. Plus he is just an above average 3B.

Sorry - I meant from the standpoint of where things were headed into the season.

Ok. Some players can develop while in the bigs. But to me Robinson looks lost. Not a fan of hi up here Rua looks a bit better but not by too much. They both look better defensively than Gallo currently but if he is being groomed then yes not a bad idea.

But then what about Calhoun. Is he only a DH? Maybe there are young guys on the trade horizon

Seems like relievers go up and down in stock frequently. But Bush was getting hit with a straight FB late last year and IMO had only one used secondary pitch. No way he was going to start despite his desire

virtually everything i have read about him says he is destined to DH.

Thus he is landlocked in RR with Choo here. We have to move Choo then or get value for Calhoun

Curious as to what would qualify as a "true chance."

Not to not answer the question. But, give him uninterrupted AB's in LF, or at least, try him as the ever so popular 'super UI' which is so popular now.

I don't see Gallo as being in the picture at 3B, given the injuries we currently have it could be a short term fix but I don't think its long term in the slightest, hence I'd rather see IKF, Robinson or Rua there as a stop gap and if they like what they with Guzman at 1B then leave Gallo in LF for the same reason someone said put him at 3B, it depends on what they think his long term place is

Defensively he's not much more than adequate anywhere (probably best at 1B but Guzman is better), but with LF being about as easy a defensive position there is, he can at least focus on his hitting, which lets face it, is why he's here

According to what I read today, the Rangers consider LF to be a much more difficult position than RF, at least in our home stadium.

Choo and Beltre can unlock a log jam. Limited time to groom anyone at 3rd with Beltre active and Rua/Calhoun being blocked at DH by Choo. Don't know if we can ever do anything w/ Choo.

Hopefully he really is raking come the trade deadline and we can convince someone to take him off our hands for the best possible deal we will ever get,

It won't be much I'd be willing to eat a chunk of his contract for a solid prospect

I just want his spot in the lineup opened up for a young guy
