I'll be honest, I'd still rather have Steve Cishek. Especially after David Phelps is experiencing "elbow discomfort"

Still haven't heard anything about how serious it is.
100% agree. Instead we have Ramirez who isn't going to do anything that Gaviglio or Bergman couldn't have done.

Garton, seems like good bullpen depth... key word "depth" probably not going to improve the bullpen. However with Phelps going down with an injury. An injury that I have a bad feeling about. Garton being added will help out of necessity more than anything. The other options on the 40 man have either tried and failed or are injured. Garton fits in nicely with the "Mariner mold" with his 5.62 major league ERA. We are basically looking at Dan Altavilla numbers, good in AAA then garbage fire in the majors.

Maybe Thyago Vieira gets a shot soon?

Wouldn't be the first time they rushed a fire throwing young guy to the majors. They did it with Diaz.

I understand the Garton/Marjama trade.

If anything, I feel as if Marjama will contribute more in the short and long-term than Garton. I anticipate that Marjama is going to be our #2 catcher with Carlos Ruiz's contract expiring and unlikely to be renewed.

It wouldn't surprise me if they called him up. I just hope they do it for the right reasons and make sure he is ready. I haven't seen him pitch since ST, so im not sure how he looks other than what the numbers say.

So far his numbers look good and he was impressive at the futures game.

Also it's hard to ignore a guy who has a fastball that runs 99-101 MPH.

I'm still just trying to understand Jerry. The starting staff, to me, isn't any better than with Bergman and Gavilio. I am still surprised that Jerry would trade away a pretty decent arm in the bullpen to get a guy you have to stretch out. And even when stretched out Ramirez isn't head and shoulders better than those two I mentioned earlier.

Only thing that I read was from Phelps who said it happened the game before the one he came out of and he did not feel a pop just didn't get loose.

If we were to put Ramirez in the bullpen I think he is an upgrade over Cishek, IMO. The problem is that we will continue to start him rather than put him in the pen.

Bingo. There you go. In his first two starts here, he has not given up any runs in either the first nor second inning. After that he has gotten lit up.

Think about it. If you have Gallardo go 6 innings giving up two maybe three runs, and you bring in Ramirez to cover 7-8 innings with Diaz closing. That's a winnable game. If you have Paxton go 7 innings giving up a run maybe two, then you could have Ramirez close out the game while giving Diaz the night off. This is where Ramirez is valuable, not starting.

He can also plug the hole that needs to be filled when David Phelps went down. Our bullpen had been a work in progress all year and they finally had it at a good place. Then Phelps get hurt. But they can work Rameriz in. Let Bergman or Gaviglio start, squeeze five innings out of them and have Rameriz be a middle inning reliever with Zych, Vincent and Diaz closing it out.

Makes total sense.

Bergman or Gaviglio could produce the same outing or better than Ramirez could give us so why not? This is where Servais holds back a team that could get over the hump, but likely won't. JeDi isn't good at getting pitching talent, and Servais isn't good at managing the little bit of talent that we may have.

To me he is crap either way. He was crap the first time here and he is crap now. Outside of throwing in the bullpen, I wouldn't want him on a mound...but that's just me.

I had to laugh a little at this premise. I get your point, but if we could get that from Gallardo I would be happy with anyone coming in for relief.

Gallardo has started 17 games this year and he has only gone 6 inning while giving up 3 or less runs 4 times and the last one was almost 2 months ago. :)

Still haven't heard anything about Phelps yet. I'd assume if it was something series he would be on the DL by now?

Yeah, saw that thread late...

Unsure how much I care about Felix being out for a month. He looked really good against the Yankees, but his next two starts were hard to watch. Hell he has been hard to watch because the last time he looked this out of shape he was 19.

Maybe not the greatest example, but you got my point. Ramirez can pitch two scoreless/productive innings way more frequent than 4-5-6 innings in a start. Even if you get 5 innings out of Gallardo, Ramirez would be my first option in long relief. At first sign of vulnerability you pull him, but I think we could expect a solid 2 innings on any given night.
