Finally getting some recognition. Considering on who we beat to get the Super Bowl, we are the greatest Super Bowl team of all time. Deion's Falcons, Barry Sanders Lions. Plus Jim Kelly;s Bills when Thurman Thomas won MVP that year. It was their best Bills team of the 90's.

no sense? we beat great teams

The Bills repped the AFC 4 years in a row in the SB during that stint in time. The only one in which they were competitive. Was the 1st year and year before they played the Skins. They lost to the Giants, 20-19, in 1990 on Norwood's wide right FG att on the game's last play. The year ater when they played the Skins is when the serious ass whippins started being issued out to them like rubbers are issued out at a free health clinic.

After the Raiders ass paddled the Skins in the 84 Super Bowl. The NFC rep for the SB won it 13 times in a row with only two of those games, Giants/Bills, 9ers/Bengals, being decided by a point differential of less than 10 points. From the 85 SB to the 92 SB only 4 teams, 9ers 3 times, Skins twice, Giants twice, Bears one time, won a Super Bowl in those 8 years. Six times they were straight up ass whippins. The AFC had no great teams during that period. All the great teams were NFC teams at that time. After the Raiders SB win 84 the AFC wouldn't see another great team till the Broncos in the late 90s.

Far as the Lions and Falcons being great teams in 91/92. The Skins played both teams twice in 91/92. They beat the Lions 45-0 and 41-10 and the Falcons 56-17 and 24-7 in a game that wasn't near as close as the final score which isn't that close at all. Great teams don't get beat down like that twice in one season by the same team.

What made the Redskins great that year wasn't who they played. It was how the Redskins played. Part of that greatness was

7 times they won a game by 20 points or more that regular season. They also tallied the biggest point differential from their opponents of all Super Bowl winning teams in the Super Bowl era.

91 Skins 485 points scored/30.3 points per game
91 Skins opponents 224 points scored/14 points per game

A point differential of 16.3 points per game.

Mark Rypien was the NFL's 2nd leading passer in QB rating, TD passes, YPA and 4th in passing yards.

Ernest Byner was the NFL's 5th leadng rusher and along with Gerald Riggs and Ricky Ervins formed an almost perfect RBBC.

Monk and Clark were both 1000+ yard WRs.

The OL gave up 9 sacks for the entire season.

Brian Mitchell led the NFL in punt ret yards, 600 yd, 2nd in pt ret avg, 13.3 yards per ret, and NFL leader with 2 ret TDs

The Skins defense only allowed 14 points a game, had 50 sacks and 27 INTs/3 TDs

Chip Lohmiller was the NFL's leading scorer with 149 points, 28 more than the 2nd leading scorer and made 56 XP (56 TDs were the most TDs scored that year) and made a league leading 31 FGs.

Just stumbled on a 30 for 30 about the Bills. They spent a lot of time talking about that game including the DL coach Dickerson making fun of the Hogs. He got his by being fired after Levy found out about it a day or so after the game. Bills player said the players said he should have been fired before the game. Several also said of the 4 losses this was the only one they were overmatched, several said the Redskins were the best team they have ever seen.

Agreed it's about time this team got some long overdue respect.

I agree Breed with all your stats. I thought the Bills had there best offensive team when they played us. That is why I think the 91 Skins were the best superbowl team in history.

Not my stats, homey. The Skins put em up. Truth be told, while they can be a lotta fun, who is the greatest or best SB champ of all time polls are pointless.

I do believe the 91 Skins don't get enough love though so it was nice to see someone giving them some. Nor does Joe Gibbs get enough love for winning 3 SBs with 3 different QBs.

I don't know about the Gibbs part, seems like he's well respected as he should be. But there has never been a doubt that '91 team never got it's due, no doubt because they weren't a real dynasty like many of the others on the list.

Yep - Gibbs certainly does have the respect of most. As far as the lack of a dynasty I believe that this can also be traced somewhat to Gibbs. He only stayed on for one more season after this. They won a playoff game but lost to the 49ers in the playoffs. After that Petitbone had one terrible season then on to Turner & - oh well - you know the story.

Even Gibbs II was better than most of the coaches during the Snyder era. He took them to the playoffs 2 of his 4 seasons & has their most recent playoff win. Hopefully we are saying really good things about Gruden 4-5 years from now.
