And industry sources tell ESPNNewYork.com the Yankees are expected to open their formidable wallet to the international market in a big way this summer in an attempt to reload their farm system and cash in on what many believe is a particularly strong crop of foreign-born talent.

Apparently with a threat of a international draft, the Yankees want to spend big money on this years international players before the draft happens in a attempt to build their farm.

That is a smart move by them then. That would then address the only issue the Yankees have had now for some years. That being, not much home grown talent.

Not that these guys will be home grown per se, but I hope you follow me....

Prediction: After the Yankees spend all this money on the international market, MLB will come up with new rules to make sure the Yankees can never do that again.

Pretty much. No one cares when other teams do it, but if the Yankees do it you have all the small market squads whining about it.

Sounds like some Yankee fans in here would like to see the Yankees become the Harlem Globetrotters of MLB while the rest play the Generals part.
With the scouts the Yankees have been employing money might not get them the young players they need.

Question how does Cashman keep his job if the Yankees flop again this year?

If this team flops, I'll be stunned if Cashman keeps his job. It's pretty obvious that he is going all out for this season. I have to admit, this team looks pretty damn good. He ponies up for one more top starter, watch out.

This past season the Cubs & Rangers spent big on the international market. They made trades to get the money they needed from other teams to do so. You can't just outspend everybody on the international market. There's a cap of some sorts. This years crop is supposed to be much better than last years. It was already suggested last year that a lot of teams were going to go hard after this years group. The Yankees won't be alone.

Yankees attendance has steadily dropped since 2008. They must get NY interest back in the team. Too many open seats, cant sell out playoff games even. Throw money at it, somehow, and get the fans back. Red Bulls will start competing more and more in the years ahead. Cash should solve it

The old ballpark held more people in it than this one does. The YES rating and attendance fell last season though, it was like their worst season because of the team. It forced them really to go all out on bringing in players, though they also had a ton of money off the books. They spent a ton and are still at a lower payroll than they have been at.

The new ballpark ticket prices are no joke. Some of those seats are extremely expensive.

The Yankees are making upgrades to their minor-league complex in Tampa, Fla., including a cafeteria for players and field refurbishments, reports Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News. The Yankees have also added to their player development staff, bringing in more scouts and a statistics guru, following a season that saw struggles up and down their farm system.
