and then extend him with a 5 year deal. maybe pettibone, ruf and either hernandez/revere. something like that. he's only 28 and his game reminds me a lot of hamels. the rotation would go back to looking extremely dangerous with hamels, lee, price, gonzalez, kendrick. only issue is, biddle shouldn't be too far away. he'd be a 4th lefty. but then again, if you're good, who cares? plus he's not a given.

I'm not sure why the Rays would do that. What is Amaro's sales pitch going in? "I'm really gonna blow you away with this now- I'll give you a guy I've said isn't good enough to start, a guy with a 1.495 whip and a singles hitter coming off an injury that I traded Vance Worley for"

wishful thinking. rumor is the rays would like a 1st baseman and young pitcher. unfortunately, i'm sure at least one team will step up to offer some nasty prospects for him. it's too bad because price would put the phils back on the right track, at least for the regular season, with dominating pitching.

pettibone shouldn't be knocked though. he faced a lot of tough teams in his 18 starts and only gave up more than 3 runs, 3 times. and more than 4, 1 time. so he basically left the phils in the game 17 of his 18 starts.

Yeah, Pettibone has solid potential and he's only 23. Also, Amaro has said Ruf probably isn't a starting rightfielder but like you said, he could sell him to an AL team as a 1b/DH/

Amaro is still dysfunctional. He should offer Howard and Palpebon-head and see if the Rays take the bait or laugh at him!

If Price is on going to be on the market, then you have a valid question. If he isn't, then this is nothing more than useless wishful thinking.

Everything seems to indicate the Rays are interested in moving Price.

Pettibone, Ruf, and Revere or Hernandez for one of the best pitchers in the game? What the hell?

Bottom line is that the Phillies don't have the pieces available that would make Tampa agree to a trade.

I agree. To get Price, a team might need two Grade A prospects and 1 or 2 other prospects that aren't that far behind. Revere, Ruf, and Pettibone just don't fit the bill. Hell, they couldn't even pay for the drinks or the appetizers.

price is going to make a huge chunk of cash in arb this upcoming season. more than a few teams can easily handle it. however, not many can handle the 20 million or so per year contract he'll want and get starting in 2015.. which is the exact reason tampa will be dealing him.

certain teams might give up some really good prospects, but no one is going to go crazy for a 1 year rental unless they have specific plans on signing him, and are confident they can sign him.

although he's obviously older, cliff lee is a good example. he's better than price and is locked into a contract. but because of that high price tag, not many can or will step up for him. and the teams that can, like boston, reportedly refused to give much in return.

Some team will inevitably give up much better prospects than the ones you named. Even if those were the best prospects offered, the Rays would be better off holding on to him and try to make one last run at the World Series.

I agree with you on that. The Rays might want to make one last run but if they are out of it and they know that they will lose Price to Free Agency then I can see them moving him. But like all of you have said it is going to take some major prospects for the Rays to even considering getting rid of him.

BostonFan, did you get a new account? There was a poster whose name was something like "BostonFan" with your same avatar. Maybe just a coincidence?

Hahaha I gotcha. I can't look on the MLB General Forum because HammerTroll banned me from any other page than the Phillies page for arguing with Braves fans about their attendance record and their poor playoff history LOL.

Also cool to see a poster from Vermont. That's where my ancestors came when they first came to America.

Nice. Yeah found this place I like it so far!

Also like I have been saying you guys getting Price would cost a lot. Would it be worth it? Yes. But it would be a cost.

We just don't realistically have enough prospects to acquire a guy like Price. I mean, I guess we could package a deal around Maikel Franco, Cody Asche, and Jesse Biddle, but we would be better advised to hold on to those three and let some other team sell the farm for him.
