Don't get me wrong, I love Rose too. I love anyone retired who was a Phillies (I even have a portrait of Geoff Jenkins in my garage). But why so much love for Rose? It's not like he was great while he was here, and he only played 4 years. Could someone fill me in?

I mean, I'm just saying, Fred Luderus got us to a World Series and played much better, but no one even knows who the hell he is. I get Rose is a legend, but he only played for us in the twilight of his career

The same reason Phillies fans love Utley. He was on the team that won a championship for the first time in a long time. He played every game like he gave a shit. Plus I think a lot of people believe he is what put them "over the top". They made the playoffs in 76 77 78 and lost every time. They signed Rose who was bigger than life at the time and had an off year in '79 but they came back and won the next year. Personally, I liked the way he spiked the ball on the astroturf at first base every time he made the last out. I'm not sure anyone else could get away with that without some crazy pitcher hitting him because of some stupid unwritten rule.

Great read. I guess Rose does deserve all the credit he gets, despite putting up paltry production from '80-'83.

On a side note, why the hell did fans boo Mike Schmidt? Hell, Ryan Howard wasn't a quarter of the player that Schmidt was, and I can't recall him getting booed very often at all. I'm all for booing players who don't perform or opposing cocksucking players, but why Schmidt? He's the greatest player in Phillies history and seems like one of the nicest guys ever

BTW, you're closing in on a Schmidt accomplishment with your likes. Make sure you let me serve you a gopher ball and like your 500th post

Word. I didn't notice I was this close. Hopefully I can get it on a quality post, preferably on one of my patented John Wayne Gacy references.

I think it is just fans can't handle streaky power hitters. Back then it wasn't cool to strike out (even though most seasons he didn't strike out nearly as much as some of the guys playing now). But it's not like he was booed every time up or anything.

Looking back you'd think there would be more negative fan reactions towards Carlton because he seemed like kind of a dick (went the whole time with Phillies without ever talking to the press), but I guess pitchers can get away with that kind of stuff (see Chris Sale) if they are that good.

Oh yeah, the hits were good too--but really most of them were as a Red.

So what. He was super star in our midst. I just wish players today put out the same great effort. Does anyone even try to get 200 hits?

Not as much, because most realize BA is overrated:D

this is the only thing I remember Jenkins for as a Phillies, but I can't remember what game it is from in 2008. Was it Pat or Werth that knocked him home?

Game 5. Werth hit him in, but it wasn't the game-winning run

also, I remember Jenkins having the largest hat size in the league.

That is all I remember about Geoff Jenkins.
