But it just fell apart, I mean the wheels just came off?

Virginia Tech 2002. Beating LSU and winning at Texas A&M and no losses until losing four out of the last five ranks up there for me. Too many Michigan ones to list.

2007 with all the upsets. 2013 is close but I didn't think Auburn would lose to Mizzou.

1987 & 1988 Auburn - If Auburn had won the recruiting battle for Emmitt Smith we win the national championship back to back.

If Oregon beat Stanford, I believe they beat ND for the championship. That was probably Oregon’s most complete team

This year! Harbaugh had a team filled with his recruits, a senior QB who was a 5* recruit, plenty of depth, and a VERY favorable home field schedule.

I don’t think he has had a better team on paper. :gaah:

Was that the same game DAT missed a block that cost us the game?

1990 We had a defense with future NFL stars Levon Kirkland, Wayne Simmons, Chester McGlockton, Ed McDaniel. Robert O'Neal, James Trapp and Jerome Henderson, an experienced OL with two seniors and three RS juniors, an experienced QB in DeChane Cameron, and a solid FB in Tony Kennedy.

Then comes January 18th 1990, Danny Ford is forced out and they bring in Ken Hatfield. The offense never gets on track in 1990 and we waste a defense that only allows 9.08 points per game that season and lose two games (UVA and GT)

I was at that LSU game. Was my first experience with an SEC fan base. They were so arrogant. They said we were in for some big boy football. I vividly remember some of their fans singing “over the hills and through the fields to “Lame” Stadium we go. It was just a slap in the face. But when that game started they got a heavy dose of Bud Foster and Beamer Ball and got their ass beat 26-8. That was pretty gratifying.

In my lifetime, I went with 2008. High expectations on offense and favorites to win the ACC for the first time in 17 years. Started the season #9 and then got blown out by bama. Never really recovered.

Did get a good coach out of it tho.

2008 is up there, but that team still had major flaws. Spence was not a good OC and the OL was horrible.

There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't have went undefeated in 1990 except for the fact that the "offensive genius" Ken Hatfield had to go and screw up a unit that was pretty damn good the year before and change everything about it. Even an average offense allows us to go undefeated that year.

85- if Ronnie Harmon doesnt get fumblitis in the Rose Bowl Iowa wins the natty

2009- if Stanzi doesnt get hurt OR if Shonn Greene had come back Iowa goes unbeaten

This year ranks up there too with everything Iowa lost early to the draft last year ( weird for us ). If Hockenson, Fant, Hooker and Nelson all come back i think we wouldve been 12-0 and gave OSU all they could handle
