what kind of processor do you have, what's your RAM, and what's your storage (hard drive) capacity and RPM?

need to know that at a minimum to answer very well, assuming you use your pc casually for browsing, watching vids, that sort of thing.

no matter what, if it's a few years old, i would recommend maxing the ram, and maybe thinking about replacing your hard drive with an SSD. that should be enough to keep most pc's running 7 or 8 purchased within the past few years running well.

it's the processor that's slowing you down, i'd bet. running 8 on a Celeron is probably going to get a little slower every couple of months. with that processor and RAM combo, i'd bet that you'd run into a good deal of lag even trying to run windows productivity software.

rather than replacing the processor and upgrading the RAM, it might be more cost-efficient to just get a new PC. i was choosing between a pc and an imac last year, and ended up getting a pc with a decent processor, and then maxed out the RAM and replaced the HDD drive with an SSD. worked well for me.

i'm not an expert on this stuff, so wait to see what more knowledgeable people might say.

Edit: Ignore my original reply.

I would start with the easy cheap solution & double your RAM.
