And that brings me to the following...a very good poster by the name of Raleigh Hokie posted the following information on another message board several years ago:

"Best S&C indicators for OLs:

..."The best measure of explosiveness is the push press. Statistically, the
push press has the highest correlation in determining playing time on the
offensive line."

"Also, Gentry has stated that he considers that to be the most important lift
for linemen (shows explosiveness)."

"Squat is a good indicator of drive blocking ability and the hang clean can
be used as an indicator of pass blocking ability in handling bull rushes."

"The bench press probably has the lowest correlation in performance for
offensive linemen."

"As for the running times, the 10 yard dash and shuttle run are the best
indicators of agility for offensive linemen. A good 'rule of thumb' in looking
at 40 times and shuttle runs is to look at the difference between the two
times. The shuttle time should be .5 lower than the 40, so if a player is more
than .5 faster in the shuttle, then he is probably more quick than fast; and,
of course, the converse is true if the difference is much less than .5. Any
shuttle time below 4.5 is very good for an OL and a [10 yard dash] time below
1.7 would be ideal."

Hello my son would love to play at VA TECH. He is a kicker for MHS in Newport News, VA. Last year was his first year playing football and he kicked a 45 yrd FG for the PD record last year. He has been to a couple of camps and working hard this summer. THe ST coach at ODU told him he would be a top recruit for the class of 2013. Check out his you tube videos - mhskicks27

on that 45 yarder it looks like he got a little excited as his approach looked off. he probably could have cleared it by even more if he was kicking them like he was in practice!
