my first thoughts when hearing the rangers were interested last week was "FUCKING AWESOME!!"

then i've been reading posts since with all these dummies, coughfanscough, going "blah blah blah the phils are stupid blah blah blah why are they doing this blah blah blah." and once again, it kind of makes me embarrassed to know these same people 'cheer' for the team.

of course, a lot of these people are surely the ones who cried about trading giles to begin with. velasquez has an electric arm, but he also cannot go more than 6 innings. he's only been able to do it 2 times in 18 starts. he has some control issues and one tommy john under his belt. he's only thrown 153.1 MLB innings so far as well.

if the rangers love him because they are seeking cheap, talented, under control pitching.. that's nothing but great news for the phils. with a little effort, they could score a possible 2 of 3 from a mazara/gallo/profar mix. they could include rupp, hellickson, various options. take back a bad contract maybe. all different ideas to pull in more. same thing as the hamels deal.

regardless, texas will have to pay out the ass for him if the phils decide to trade. everything is in their favor right now with the rangers desperately wanting pitching and the phils not having to do a damn thing. if "fans" can't see how much more value guys like profar and mazara, for example, would bring to the table than a guy like velasquez who plays once every 5 games.. what can be said? they're just not very bright.

at any point in the future, the phils can dump whatever cash they want at a top of the line starting FA pitcher to go out and produce a mid 3 era or better. they cannot randomly buy multiple top prospects whenever they choose.

if they trade, and at the very least get back mazara and profar, it's an instant steal.

I don't usually get involved in these rating arguments, but I can verify that the one post where you stated I was a black guy with AIDS is in fact bullshit. So he's right on that one

As far as the trade talks with the Rangers I was listening to a national radio show with Jody MacDonald and Jim Bowden talking about the trade deadline and they were talking about how it is really a sellers market for teams with pitching. That Marlins deal was crazy. They gave up their number one draft pick, among other things for a couple mediocre pitchers, one of whom is a free agent next year. No one knows what players were discussed but if it is something like Profar and Gallo or Profar and Mazara for Velasquez or Velasquez and some other minor player I'm all for it. Profar is 23 years old and has done a great job filling in for Odor during his suspension and playing some utility positions. No offense to Hail Cesar but Profar would be an upgrade and I could see a middle infield of Profar and Crawford as a solid double play combo for the next 8 years or so.
The Hamels deal seemed to work out good for both teams so I think they have a good thing going with the Rangers. I like VV but he has had injury problems and really hasn't pitched even the equivalent of a full major league season in any year. In fact, if he hadn't gone on the DL for a few weeks they would probably be talking about when they were going to shut him down for the year.
