Seattle metro is 3.5m as well. Yours may grow, but so does everyone else's.

Trust me that Seattle is fucking crowded. Anyone who gets stuck driving on the I5, I90, I405, or 167 every day can tell you how bad it is.
Seattle is one of my least favorite places to drive. I used to travel there a lot for business and it sucked.

Have you ever driven in Atlanta traffic? The civil engineer who decided to have 2 major interstates combine into one in the middle of a major metropolitan city should be shot on site.

list is dated, at least for Austin.

Current pop is 885,400. And that is actually a little dated as well. I remember reading a year or two ago, when it passed San Francisco.

I have not. Another horribly planned city for driving is Austin. I35.... Forget about it.

I5 is THE freeway from Canada to Mexico running north/south on the west coast. Couple of miles south of downtown Seattle is is 5 lanes. As you enter into downtown it shrinks to 2 lanes TWO FUCKING LANES. The backup this causes lasts from 6am - 11am and runs miles and miles back. How long is it 2 lanes? Less than a half mile.

Dumbest freeway planning you can have. Biggest city and you go down in lanes heading into the densest part of it.

You want fucked up roads going in circles that even locals can get lost in? Yeah, we have that too. Fucking Tacoma is a sea of highways and freeways twisted in a knot. I5 is shitty around there as well and I wonder how many are just lost people going in circles lol.

As I said, my commute can take up to 2 hours to go 23 miles. That is without accidents, just congestion. Mostly in the summer. Fastest is maybe an hour and twenty minutes on a great day.

I think most major cities anymore the roadways just have not been updated to account for the evergrowing populations. I lived in Seattle for 2 years and my wife worked downtown. It was only a few miles away from where we lived but by vehicle it took over 30 minutes and that is if there was no accident. We actually started figuring out some backways we could go to avoid the I-5. Distance wise was a lot longer but time wise usually saved us about 15 minutes.

The one city I was actually a little impressed with was that of Miami. There were a few days of getting caught in some bad traffic but for the most part the city was spread out enough that traffic stayed pretty consistent in speed for most of the day.

I still think LA though is the worst. It seems like no matter where you are trying to go it will always take you an hour if not more. It could be 11 p.m. and traffic is still like that.

I think that is the part of Seattle that shocked me the most was just how many freaking accidents there were. You could almost bank that during rush hour you would drive by 2-3 accidents in about a 5 mile stretch. everybody is going 5 mph tops at that point yet they still find a way to have ridiculous accidents backing up traffic even more. I don't think I have ever been in a place with such selfish drivers that think their time is more important than everybody else's so it is imperative that they cut off everybody possible to save an extra 30 seconds.

Hey, I feel your pain. Going from downtown Atlanta to the suburbs between 4-7pm is an excruciatingly time consuming drive. 2 hours can be a short drive when it comes to that area. Inside 285 is a total mess and 285 can be one as well. One time some Georgia Tech students made a Jewish road block (I'm sorry if I offended anybody here) going exactly the speed limit in all of the lanes and it backed up traffic like 4 or 5 hours.

Not sure where you were, but there aren't that many accidents considering the volume. I don't see more than 1 every few weeks on the road I drive? :noidea: But most of them are probably distracted drivers. Dumb fucks that can't put their phones down.

As for aggressive drivers, I think that's something that happens in every region that has fucked up traffic. I know it's bad in Cali and I've heard it's the same in the NY metro area. Add in those same assholes that can't put their phones down so they lag back and let all those fuckers cut them off and it makes for very frustrating commutes.

Well we drove between Greenwood area and Tacoma most of the time. My wife worked all over the map in Seattle so we got to see good chunks of the city. For us we saw usually at least one accident a day on I-5 or Aurora depending which way we decided to go that day and where my wife was working.

And you are right those kind of drivers are not exclusive to Seattle. I just have lived all over the country as has my wife and maybe just because cell phones are that much worse now than say 5 years ago when I was living in Miami that they have become worse. I just know in Seattle there were many days I was white knuckled from holding on ready to evade if needed.

Curious how many of you that are complaining about traffic car pool or use mass transit.
I carpool with my wife sometimes. She just works maybe 5 miles from my home base, but most of the time I can't. I'm an IT manager and spend a lot of my days responding to calls at our various locations throughout the area. Don't always start or leave at the same time so it's not possible to carpool.

I am so glad Phoenix metro area doesn't have serious traffic problems like many other places. Sure, we have some rush hour traffic in stretches that bog down for a few miles, but overall, it isn't that bad. I get being so sprawled out counteracts our poor public transit system.

Phoenix metro is about 4.6 mil as of 2014.

If we are talking about all of Los Angeles county, then it's over 10 million people.

Population and metro size are not good indicators.

Density is the magic number and as far as I'm concerned you can blow up every city on the list and as long as my son and his fiancee have a few hours notice to bug out of Boston's North End I'm good with that. More than half the country's problems would disappear in a flash.
