UNLV is set to hire Tony Sanchez from Bishop Gorman High in L.V. where he was 85 and 5and just won his 6th straight state title. Sounds like he might bring some spark to the Rebels

Maybe he can recruit a few of his HS players. Bishop Gormon is a crazy powerhouse in athletics.

I hope he's the right guy to turn the football program around. I sure would love to see the Rebels get an on campus stadium rather than playing @ Sam Boyd Stadium in Henderson though.

As a frequent Las Vegas casino goer, no one ever talks about UNLV.

And you guys think I don't have game.

Do you like The Strip or Freemont Street? When I lived in Lost Wages I hated everything about The Strip. Liked Freemont much better.

I like the Strip over Fremont Street. I will gladly take Palms, Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian, Palazzo over Fremont, Hotel Cortez, The Plaza, Golden Nugget. I went out to GVR once, way too far away. I always get lost in Caesars. Cosmopolitan is now the drinking place, no one gambles there, but there are drunk 21 and 30 year olds there by the 1000s. Marquis Nightclub.

I used to love to party the high life style, but now at my age the after liquor recovery does not feel so good. My wife and I like fine food and fine wine, and we can get it in Las Vegas.

I started at the MGM in the 1990s for my comps but they pissed me off and I switched to the Palms. Oh god, the Palms was like heaven back from 2001 to 2007. The stuff I was able to do at the Palms was unbelievable. Once the economy went in the toilet the bean counters have taken over Vegas and getting comps is only reserved for the true whales. I ain't no true whale.

My favorite restaurant in all of Las Vegas is Alize at the Palms.

I can understand as a local, you would hate the strip. It is a tourist trap for sure.

I lived in Reno for two years for gold mining so that was about the right size place with no tourist traps. Of course, the shows were dinky ones, the best one being Paul Revere and the Raiders. In Reno I frequented Karl's Silver Club, the Peppermill(had the hottest chicks), and John Ascuaga's Nugget.

It's a good hire for the program, he would have snatched up sooner or later by another program, why not get him now, let him build something good (for once) then some big school will lure him away...

Didn't Notre Dame do that once?

Yup, in 1981 they hired Gerry Faust from Cinncinatti Moeller H.S. where he had a 178–23–2 record, including a ridiculous winning streak of 100+ games.

He crashed and burned at Notre Dame.

Sanchez comes from a family tied in with the casino and other industries, one that has a lot of money. I hear via the grapevine that a big reason for the hire is the quid pro quo of a LOT of money coming into the program, stadium, and program upgrades sorely needed. The hire is less about his skills and more about his family's connections.

Let's get ready for more cheerleaders doubling as casino entertainment girls.

Keep in mind, a high school coach moving straight into d-1 college hasn't worked in almost every case, but who knows, wish him luck.

The cheerleaders were doing a photo shoot out at the pool around 8 AM. The pool does not open until 9 AM for hotel guests. At this time, the girls were leaving and going back to class? I cant remember if this was an August picture or a May picture.

The cheerleader that took the picture had her foot in a boot from an injury.

Off to the right of the picture was roulette and blackjack tables and what was known as the Center Bar. Everyone that was gambling actually stopped gambling and turned around to see what was going on. The cheerleaders seemed to enjoy that some dude wanted their picture taken with them.

The girls were very nice, friendly, and cheerful.

Now, you all know what I do with some of my discretionary income.

Tulsa just fired their high school coach. Bill Blankenship had a similar record at Union hs but he couldn't get it done in D1.

I doubt he'll pull any of the upper level Gormon kids, but he might snag a few that are 2nd or 3rd options of the Pac teams.

Here is some more stuff from one of my solo trips to Las Vegas back in 2012

The Palms Sales Pitch about the Celebrity Suite. I think I had four bathrooms, three bedrooms, eight phones, seven TVs, a sauna, a steam room, A Show Shower(unbelievable), fireplace, bar, sadly, no piano.

Gangham Style was just hitting the state when I went to the Palms, if you like Korean Girls dancing to Gangham Style you might like this. The one in the blue skirt has my fancy, but the one in the green shorts is probably the best dancer.
