Other than offensive line, has there been a better group for the Steelers than running back since he got hired in 2014? Tomlin is making changes just for the sake of making changes

I mean this team won a playoff game from solid games from Fitzgerald Toussiant and Jordan Todman, had a pair of Pro Bowl back, a third notable in DeAngelo Williams and also Jaylen Samuels running well at the end of last year.

Keith Butler, meanwhile, is still employed.

Once again, glad changes are being made, however I don't feel like these are the first moves that should be made. Joey Porter I can understand because it's on the defensive side of the ball, but I would've thought at least 2 coaches would've been axed before him. James Saxon, I don't understand that one. I know we had practically the worst running game in the league, but we had, essentially, our 2nd string RB as our starter and our rookie RB as the 2nd string and Samuels actually did pretty well in a fill in role. Not sure I agree/understand that decision.

My guess... Saxon was irked with Fichtner's usage of the RBs and likely clashed with him most of the season. Firing him is likely at Fichtner's request.

The fact that Saxon was right as admitted by Fichtner himself would've made it even worse for Fichtner IMO.

Fichtner doesn't strike me as the egotistical type so I'd be surprised if Saxon's firing was partly his decision. Just seems too far out of left field for them to fire Saxon when the RB production has been a bright spot on this team.

Have a feeling he will be

I'm not so sure he's safe...yet. Not much is coming out about anything on the coaching front aside from Munchak HC interview links. If he lets Butler go, there has to be a new DC in the pipeline...maybe that guy is not yet the pipeline...either way we're going to hear something on Butler shortly, either he got renewed or he didn't...as of now I don't think he has a contract.

Well, shit.

Porter I understand. He can do, but he cannot teach.

Keith is still here, Tom Bradley is still here, Danny is still here.

All that, and likely losing their best coach to Denver.

Saxon has mentored a pro-bowler in 4 out of 5 seasons while in Pittsburgh. But more importantly, he never had the position's production fall off with the likes of DeAngelo Williams, Jordan Todman, Fitzgerald Toussaint, etc.

Speaking of Munch... Heard he turned down an interview in Miami for the HC vacancy.

Tells me he's only going to pull up anchor for the "right fit". ie Denver.

True, it makes no sense whatsoever.

He's staying out in DEN after the interview...I know his daughter lives out there, but I'm also thinking he has been told to hang around maybe.

It sounds like it's DEN or naught as far as HC jobs go for Munchak.

Yea all signs point to that being his desired location. And if reports of his unhappiness here in PIT are true, then I wouldn't be surprised if he took a job out there that wasn't a HC.

Report: John Elway is choosing between Vic Fangio and Mike Munchak

At least according to this article. It sounds like this Fangio/Kubiak OC combo might have the inside track.

Can't blame him if he did, but IDK if I believe he wants out that badly...it seems like if there's a location fit for him as a HC he's gone, and right now DEN's location is it.

If that job goes to Fanjio, I'm not sure he's gone. He's already ruled out AZ, the other interview locations seem to be fizzling.

We shall see.

Good intel. I haven't been following it very closely. But there seems to be a little more optimism that Munch returns now. Fingers crossed.

Steelers Best Interest is Munch sticking around.

I know he'd like to go to Denver, but I'm selfish.
