To me it's a totally different situation when comparing Vanek's goal and Hertl's. It's the context of the goal that has the hockey world's panties in a bunch over Hertl's goal. Up 7-1(?) on a breakaway is different than Vanek's 'get the stick on the puck for a deflection' type goal. Also, Hertl celebrated the goal a bit much for the liking of the 'old schoolers'. I agree it's a bit much, but it's a 19 year old kid having the game of his life in his 4th career NHL game. Context makes me understand why the NHL is throwing a hissy fit, but context also explains why Hertl was so excited.

Remenda was correct on many points in his semi-tirade last night while addressing Adam Oates' comments. The league should embrace players who flash skill and exuberance. Remenda also went off on Oates for saying it was disrespecting the league what Hertl did while Kessel swinging his stick like a fucking light saber was not called out as disrespecting the league.
