I had no idea that our specials teams on punts were do that good a job. Amazing.

Tate is only player in the NFL this year with 300+ receiving yards (468) and 300 punt return yards (329).

Also, I think Lane is a big part of this....He's always the first one down and ready to make the tackles on punts coverage. 15 total yards in 9 games is unreal.

Let's not forget Jon Ryan. The guy has 16 punts inside the 20 (only 3 touchbacks) and has had 14 fair catches. So, he had a 40.7 net punting average.

Our punt team has been really good, and that's why our opponents are averaging 1.4 yards per punt return.

It is a crazy stat but I'm not sure it's 100% accurate. Looking at CBSsports it shows Tate with a 13.2 yards average on punt returns.

It's picking hairs I guess and the stat is still impressive considering Tate has 329 punt return yards this season and the Seahawks have only allowed 15.4 yards total as a team.

Jon Ryan's avg punt is down by 2-3 yards so far this season. That could be for a lot of different reasons, including our own field position, but I thought I saw an interview with him that he spent a lot of time this off season working on hang time, so this makes sense. Give up a couple yards in punt distance and get a fair catch and 0 return yards out of it as well as no chance at an explosive play for the other team. This is classic PC finding every possible way to win the field position battle and win the turnover/explosive play battle.

Lane does play a big part though. Combine the two and you get what happened on Sunday. Almost got a turnover because Lane was there and the guy dropped the fair catch. If Lane would have just layed on him, we would have had that one. oh well.

Lane and Ryan are the best Seahawk punter-gunner combo that I can remember. They were great last year at it too. Very important and underrated pieces to the puzzle.
