Well, he'll be 33 years old before next season, is a lifetime .218 hitter and has a total of 55 RBI in his 7 year career.

Personally, I like the guy. But he's caught about 35 games a year over the past few years. I'm thinking they paid him almost a million to be a fall-back position, and hopefully will stay healthy in the minors enough for immediate call-up, which we know is probably going to happen at some point in 2016.
He has hit .262 and .255 for us the last 2 years so he has improved greatly on his early career hitting struggles. He had an OPS of .820 for us in 2015. We aren't going to find a better backup offensively than that I don't think.

Also, Hamels will fall apart without Gimenez won't he?

This is true on Gimenez and his offense. But again, it's only based on about 38 games a season. And his RBI total during those 2 years and 78 games is 25.

If we go with him as the backup, this means Chirinos has to catch about 124 games. Since he's never caught a 100, that's a lot.

As far as Hamels is concerned, surely you jest?

I have looked up some of the guys we have been rumored to be interested in and none of the ones I looked up have done better than that though. I will take 25 RBI from my backup catcher in 214 ABs.

Yes, I do jest about Hamels because some tended to take that seriously a few weeks ago. I wanted to see Chirinos catch Hamels in the postseason. I don't care for the personal catcher system.

In the long term I certainly hope we can find a catcher who will make Chirinos the backup and allow us to say goodbye to Gimenez. I am just not in any hurry to replace him with some of the folks who have been mentioned.

Where is Geno Petralli when you need him? lol

Arizona getting serious about putting a solid starting rotation together by adding Shelby Miller. They had to give up a lot but can understand what they are trying to do.

O’s Reportedly Offer “In The Neighborhood” Of $150MM To Chris Davis

By Steve Adams | December 8, 2015 at 9:20pm CST

Orioles owner Peter Angelos and GM Dan Duquette have made their desire to retain Chris Davis abundantly clear, and Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com sheds some light on just how serious they are in their quest to retain Davis, tweeting that the Orioles offered their former first baseman “in the neighborhood” of $150MM at today’s previously reported meeting with agent Scott Boras. Despite the sizable nature of that offer, talks between the two sides have yet to progress, Kubatko adds.

RH bat, but with little HR power and regression in LF defensively, I for one have little interest

Starlin Castro went cheap to the Yanks, all it took was Adam Warren and Brendan Ryan. He had a much better second half and playoffs, probably becomes an AS in NY

Where's our 5th starter and another for depth? Like to see this happen today, Ranger fans.
Yeah also sure likes a lot of low balling for Mitch

Man it would be exciting to see what JD could do, if they'd just expand the budget a little more. Need another T/MORP (not sure how Derek will pitch this year) and Big RH bat

Petralli....now there's a name I had completely forgotten.

I don't really have a problem with Chirinos being our front line catcher. It seems he's getting better in all facets, and hopefully he can be a 130 game catcher for us next year; years to come actually.

Since we've got Gimenez signed, can we option him to AAA as an emergency call-up?
