I know this isn't a word, but it's unprocessable.

Baseball has gone mad. Honestly, the Price and Grienke signings make a lot more sense than this one or the Samardzija deal. And they make no sense to begin with.

I'd roll the dice with Mitch and his $6 mil for one year, rather than sign hot/cold Davis for $15-20 mil per for 3+ years.

And how are going to move forward by trading a guy like Choo and having to eat a boat load of money?

In Choo, I think we'd be trading him a year too early. If he hits the average of his 1st half vs his 2nd half last year, his value will ratchet up, if we decided to shop him.
Better to trade a year too early than a year too late to me. The money part would require the Rangers to rethink their budget which I think they should do anyway, but I will not hold my breath. What I think they should do and what I expect are very different.

When enough teams overspend that becomes the cost of doing business. At some point our ownership will have to realize that. We cannot be far from that point.

Eventually don't you think we are going to need a good long term option at 1B? Hot and cold would be an improvement over a lot of years we have had at 1B in the past several years.

Now word is the Chapman trade isn't complete and another team could swoop in and get him.

For me, it wouldn't be a year too late. I'm looking for Choo to have a very productive season, both offensively & defensively.

I honestly believe the 1st half of last year was the outlier, and he's back to being a decent fielder, nothing more or less, but a very serviceable bat.

And how much and for how long you think Davis is asking for?

I think Davis gets between $20-23 million per year for 5 years. Maybe 6 years. I think after what we save on Prince the net cost would be about $10-11 million per year.

If another club or two thinks like you do about Choo then maybe we won't have to pay much of his salary going forward and can get a good return.

Granted, my recollection is fuzzy, but this seems like a pretty wild-ass first day of the Winter meetings.

And the day is nowhere close to being over either. So it might just get a little more fuzzy. ha ha

Ok so you have Tolleson rumored to be available and now there's a hitch in the Chapman to Dodgers trade, with other teams rumored to be involved....

Certainly curious.

No.....it's the most interchangeable, temp position in the IF.

Would it be nice? Sure. Necessary? Not really.

I think that is a big reason our offense has struggled when it has since the WS years and before the WS years since Teixeira left. It is such an important power position that it hurts a team not to be strong there. Davis and Moreland have given us 2 maybe part of 3 good years there since Teixeira was traded away. Napoli helped out as well. Other than those few years we have struggled offensively at 1B and that has led to some offensive struggles for the team at itmes.

Pearce might make a decent platoon partner with Mitch.

Did Wash go to the Winter Meetings? I don't know why, but I'm surprised to see the BannyRooster there.

Power on the edges and defense up the middle. 1st and 3rd should be power guys that fielding is a bonus. 2nd and SS should be defensive studs. Same with RF/LF and then CF.

Right now we have defense all over the IF (maybe SS in bursts) when Mitch is in there. Our OF lacks power and defense in the corners, though 2nd half Choo fixed part of that.
