The Dodgers might be getting Hamels and Utley. Heard something on the radio.

I haven't been impressed at all with the Dodgers in free agency.

Go Pad Squad in 2015!

I was happy about the beginning of today, but it progressively got worse...

--- I really like Brandon McCarthy but I don't know about giving him 4 years (if and when that becomes official)

--- Howie Kendrick is a very good player, but I don't know about giving up Heaney, who's a legit top 30ish prospect for Kendrick, who is a free agent to be after 2015. smh. (although it's essentially Gordon for Kendrick + prospects)

If Alex Guerrero struggles again this season, Friedman will resign Kendrick. AG is the reason they brought in Kendrick who is in his contract year.

Agreed... 2 years would have been enough IMO

As for giving up Heaney, I think we are sending the 2 pitchers we received from San Diego along with Grandal to Philly along with the 2 other prospects for Rollins AND Hamels. I think this is why that deal is not finalized yet. Imagine Kershaw,Greinke,Hamels,Ryu and McCarthy... NAILS!

Gets rid of Kemp, and picks up Rollins. Friedman suffering from too much Cali sunshine on the brain, going buck wild at the winter meetings. :L

Kendrick is a more consistent than both Kemp and Gordon. McCarthy is just the 5th starter and Rollins will only be here for 1 year.

I like the deals. They are win now moves. The infield defense just got a whole lot better, the rotation got deeper and the outfield less crowded.

Plus, there wasn't a lot of harmony at times in the locker room last year and Ramirez and Kemp were a big part of the problem.

I agree with Outlaw though, I'd like to see them add a reliable middle reliever/setup man or 2.

Ken Rosenthal sums it up nicely I think:

The overall plan, though, is compelling.
Streamline the payroll. Create paths for youngsters such as Pederson and shortstop Corey Seager. Make the roster more flexible, spend when appropriate, combine financial might with an improving farm system to gain access to virtually any player available in free agency or trade.
Burn it down. Build it up. Friedman and Co. are only getting started
Dodgers new President "going buckwild"

Does Matt Kemp = Vernon Wells?

Didn't get rid of the full 20 mil per year like I would have liked but based on Matt's numbers for the past 3 seasons, he's still being overpaid by the Padres.

Arruebarrena may be used as a trade chip here soon as well. Friedman can't be stopped.

To be fair, Kemp was injured for about 2 of those 3 years. In the 2nd half of last season, he looked like the Matt Kemp from the season where he should have been MVP over Braun.

I agree, I think he'll provide good power numbers for 2-3 years, after that I believe the contract starts to really screw you over. He's no longer a threat as a base stealer and he's seemingly lost a step after all those injury problems. Just my opinion on it, Kemp was my favorite player for years but I acknowledge that it's all down hill from here with that contract.

Also doesn't help that Crawford hit .300 and doesn't have any interest.

Dodgers have already acquired Joel Peralta and Juan Nicasio for the bullpen. Peralta is immediately the 8th inning guy for Kenley. Nicasio will be a long guy/spot starter. The Dodgers were in on Pat Neshek but were outbid... they will get one more good arm for the pen.

I agree. It's better that they get rid of him now while they can sell high. He was my favorite player too, but you can see the decline. In 2-3 years, he won't be impacting games like he used to, but he'll be getting paid like he is.
