How about a rule if there's any loss by 26+ points, then the HMs for that game are worth 1/2 as much?

At the end of the year I was planning on an adjustment. Not sure how, but I was going to run it by you. It won't matter because Mitchell and Gobert are going to be top two spots, in my opinion. If players stay healthy. Trying to keep that out of my game-by game bias. I don't want to give them the tiebreaker or bias.

Can Snyder ever win a HM for a game?

What about Dennis Lindsey? What if he signs a 10 day contract player like Sundiata Gaines, who hit the game winning shot?

If Lindsey signs some obscure player and that player has a great game or two, does Lindsey get a HM credit?

Do you remember the Sundiata Gaines stretch?

Yes, I remember it well, but I was embarrassed about his NBA Finals win celebration... Wait, that was just a regular season game in the middle of nowhere? It was a wee bit over the top times 20.

So I have caught up to tonight's game.

Trends So Far:

1. Points get you nowhere if you don't do other things. Hood leads the team in points, but is 5th Place in the MVP Standings.
2. Consistency helps: Ingles has not been an MVP yet, but he's 4th in the standings due to consistently being placed. And you know how I'm biased against Jinglin' Joe. Or was it Slow Mo Joe? ;)
3. Gobert is only down due to injury. Should catch up to 2nd Place. Favors did well in absence.
4. Got to go, so may come back to update list.

Thanks, I'll rewatch it.

I guess I can say that it would be the highlight of his NBA career. He would not have any other NBA glory after that.

Someone like Favors or Gobert, who would know that they'd still be on the team in 3 weeks, if they did what you say Gaines did, it would be much more embarrassing.

Also what do you think about by ideas for reasons why Snyder or Lindsey could get a HM?

Right now, it is:

1. Mitchell
2. Rubio
3. Favors
4. Ingles
5. Gobert
6. Hood
7. Burks
8. Sefolosha
9. Jerebko
10. Neto
11. Udoh
12. Johnson
13. O'Neale

If I gave 0 votes for the 7th Place, no differences in rankings so far.
If I gave 0 votes for 6th and 7th, Favors would drop below Ingles in the rankings so far and Johnson would be last place.
If I gave 0 votes for 5th, 6th, and 7th, Favors would be back at 3rd, but Gobert would jump Ingles (which I expect him to do anyway).
If I gave 0 votes for 4th-7th, Gobert would jump to 3rd, Hood to 4th, Ingles to 5th, and Favors to 6th.
If I only gave points for MVP and Runnerup, Mitchell would be winning 164-68 over Gobert and Rubio, Hood would be 4th, Favors, 5th, Burks 6th, and Ingles 7th.
However, if only winners counted, it would be Mitchell, Gobert/Rubio, Favors, Hood/Burks, everyone else 0.

So, 7 deep is unnecessary, but 6 deep impacts 3rd/4th Place overall. I wonder if that holds true the whole season. So far, I have given 7 spots for all but 2 games. Those games only went 5 and 6 deep respectively. I checked these games, would-be 5th/6th Placers would not have changed any standings.

Yes, I will later look into what happens when we selectively change points when a game is blown out. But I don't want to do the work more than maybe twice in a year.

Jazz vs. Rockets - Box Score - December 18, 2017 - ESPN

1. MVP1: Hood, 26 Points, 4 Assists, 3 Rebounds, 2 Steals, 10-18 Shooting, 0 TOs.
2. MVP2: Ingles, 17 Points, 4 Assists, 3 Rebounds, Good shooting, 1 TO.
3. HM3: Rubio, 14 Points, 4 Assists, 2 Steals, 3 Rebounds, Good shooting, 1 TO.
4. HM4: Johnson, 12 Points, 2 Assists, 3 Rebounds, OK shooting, 0 TOs.
5. HM5: Jerebko, 6 Points, 3 Steals, 5 Rebounds, 1 Assist, Good shooting, 0 TOs.
6. HM6: Mitchell, 6 Points, 4 Steals, 2 Rebounds, 1 Assist, OK shooting, 1 TO. Injured.
7. HM7: Burks, 8 Points, 4 Rebounds, OK shooting, 1 TO.

Listed 7 players, despite 21-point loss, because they were winning through 3 quarters and Mitchell was injured in-game, playing without Gobert or Favors. Hard to adjust midway and while they deserved to lose, 7 players played hard in a difficult situation against a great team.

Wow, thanks for the recap.

Spurs vs. Jazz - Box Score - December 21, 2017 - ESPN

1. MVP1: Hood, 29 Points, 3 Rebounds, 1 Steal, 1 Block, Good shooting. Started 12–21 but missed his last three shots when we had a double-digit lead. No lead is safe against the Spurs, but at least the three misses were not in a loss. No assists! :(
2. MVP2: Rubio, 11 Points, 7 Assists, 11 Rebounds(!), 1 Steal, Poor shooting, but 6 TOS. :(
3. HM3: Favors, 14 Points, 9 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Block, Good shooting, 1 TO.
4. HM4: Ingles, 6 Points, 5 Assists, 5 Rebounds, Good shooting, 1 TO.
5. HM5: Jerebko, 9 Points, 2 Assists, 3 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Steal, 1 Block, OK shooting, 1 TO.
6. HM6: Johnson, 10 Points, 4 Rebounds, 1 Assist, Good shooting, 0 TOs.
7. HM7: Burks, 12 Points, 3 Rebounds, Poor shooting, 2 TOS.

@nuraman00 , I need your help. Do you think Rubio should drop down due to his six turnovers and poor shooting? Am I overrating Ingles and underrating Burks?

Hard to say. Rubio's 11 rebounds was huge, as was outrebounding the Spurs. Jazz got 36 defensive boards on 44 missed Spurs FGs (81%) compared to 33 defensive rebounds for the Spurs on 40 missed Jazz FGs (82.5%).

Percentage wise, the Spurs were better, but the Jazz being good on the defensive boards is a plus.

But, Ingles 1 turnover also helped the Jazz commit less turnovers than the Spurs, while Rubio's 6 TOs were in spite of the Jazz committing less turnovers than the Jazz.

So what was more helpful, Rubio's rebounds or Ingles less turnovers?

The Jazz had 18 points off turnovers, while the Spurs had 10.

So committing less turnovers helped the Spurs have less points off turnovers.

The Jazz made 20 FTs compared to the Spurs 11.

So Rubo's 6-6 from the foul line was better than Ingles 0-2.

So Rubio helped in rebounding and free throws.

Burks also went 6-6 but had 2 turnovers.

Hmm, keep Rubio, Ingles, and Burks where they are.

Burks 2 turnovers counts against him, so he doesn't get to move up.

Rondo had a 25 assist game on Wednesday, and I just found out about it a minute ago? Why didn't @MHSL82 post about it sooner?

Boo. I feel disappointed that we have only had two players at the top of the MVP Rankings at any part of the year (overall). Rubio got off to a hot start, once 39 points ahead of Mitchell and now 43 points behind. Maximum points ahead of #2 was 16 points for Rubio. However, Mitchell now has a 43 point lead over Rubio (2nd Place).

How do you calculate overall MVP rankings?

I'm disappointed in Ingles. His steals have gone down a lot during the season.

Maybe @MHSL82 can finally Jingle a Jingle to get him rejuvenated.

Just the points you see on the top page. I have an Excel sheet that I update every once in a while.
