A proven commodity vs a chance at potential. Age old question, but who is going to give up a true proven QB in his prime for 2 1st round picks after the Wilson and Cutler deals? Probably now need to up the ante to 2 1st rounders and what??? On the flip side, what exactly have Wilson and Cutler done that make it worth it?

So it's 1 for 3, and the Rams added plenty besides Stafford.

I don't disagree, but any GM that pulls the trigger on the trade has to have real job security to pull it off. Let's now take a look at who you believe is a QB that would be on the market for 2 1st round picks.

Redskins did pretty much offer that for staff and Wilson. They didn’t have a goff to throw in though

I'll make a list of teams that the GM doesn't just hang up the call if you say "2 firsts for your QB". They sure as hell wouldn't admit they took your call though. You're welcome to refute them.

Dolphins
Chargers
Jaguars
Packers

Teams that would trade right now and you would know you offered too much, but since you're desperate...{cough, cough, Jets}
Broncos
Philly
Dallas
Detroit
Browns
Rams
Everyone else on this list isn't trading or doesn't even deserve a call

Hell no, and don't call back or I'll put you on the no call list
KC
Buffalo
San Fran (but they'd want 3 because of contract, then they'd start asking for sweeteners)

Maybe I'll make a list for all 32...but this is off the top of my head.

Here is the real list and what it would probably cost to get them and why if it needs explanation. Again, dispute as you will.

No, and don't call back
Bills
Cincy
Houston
Indy
KC
San Fran

We will listen, but you probably don't have enough or won't pay what we want
Dolphins
Baltimore
Tennessee (they don't know what he is, so they'll try their luck going forward)
Denver
Chargers
Philly
Green Bay
Carolina (they won't trade the 1st overall pick after a year, unless you get really stupid)

You're going to have to pay, but don't tell anyone you called and we won't tell either
Cleveland
Jacksonville (maybe up 1 tier, as they're probably not sure what he really is yet)
Dallas
Detroit
LA Rams

We've seen enough, but you can try him on for size, if pay enough cuz we can't look stupid?
Pittsburgh
Las Vegas (they don't know who's next so what's the point)
Chicago
New Orleans
Tampa Bay
Arizona
Seattle

Ham and cheese sammich, tater salad and a bag of chips and he's yours...or are you for real...a 7th is fine...teams that don't have a QB
New England
NY Jets (1 year rental for A Rod and anybody else is lunch)
NY Giants (What do we have to kick in to get this done?)
Washington
Minny (Cousins is a FA, what else do you need to know)
Atlanta

Rams wouldn't trade Stafford. He is playing lights out.

It's fine as long as it's the right QB. If it's not, you probably fucked yourself. Unless you're the 49ers, the NFL's version of Mr. Magoo as of late.

They did try this past offseason but since they are playing better than even I'm sure they projected they might try for one more run at a Super Bowl while they still have Stafford and Donald.

Even if they wanted to trade him I don't think his contract is very tradable in 2024 so they really don't have a choice but to roll with him at least one more season.

I think there's only a handful of QBs that are even worth offering 2 firsts for right now and none of those teams would be remotely interested. Stafford is really the only big name QB that this worked out for but the Rams were already on the cusp of SB contention. Also, Stafford and Detroit were parting ways and McVay wanted to unload Goff. The situation was rather unique. Tbh, giving up draft capital for a QB has for the most part been a failure.

It all depends on the situation.

If there are pieces in place to put around the QB, then it's not too much.

If you have, say, no offensive line at all to protect him, you are basically giving up three firsts for a future David Carr.

Sure they would.

He’s old as hell.

Wouldn’t take any firsts this time.

He has had a great month, but some of the recent plaudits are a bit over the top. I still root for him, but this is kind of what he does and the return of pick-6 Staff is never far away... hopefully that guy shows up if they come here for a playoff game.

The champion year, he never threw that expected pick 6 in the postseason. All he did was

Trading Stafford and taking on the accelerated cap hit before June 2023 would have been unbelievably difficult. They would have needed to create $28M in cap space to do it.
