Red Sox Talking to Sheilds

NESN reported last night that rumors of the Red Sox talking to Matt Sherzer are not true. If the RS wouldn't pony up $175M for John Lester, there's no way they'd give Sherzer $200M. Then they said that the Red Sox have been talking to Sheild's people trying to get a fix on what he's looking for in regards to dollars. Both pitchers are starting to get a bit antsy according to NESN as pitchers and catchers report inabout 4 weeks.

Red Sox may not either. NESN reports that Sheilds wants a 5 years $110M contract. That's $22M a year. I thinks the Sox are thinking more in the 5 year $90-95M range.

Shields is out of his mind if he truly thinks he is worth 110M plus a draft pick. Shields' changeup wasn't anything close to a wipeout pitch last season like it was in years past. in fact, it rated a few runs below average; interpret that how you will.
