RHP Cody Buckel, who has plummeted from one-time top prospect due to command issues, will go from relief to the rotation with his recent demotion to low Class A Hickory. Buckel was scheduled to start Thursday for Hickory in a doubleheader. Buckel walked 11 in 10 relief innings at Frisco earlier this year.

A couple of other brief minor league notes:

• Now that he has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock, RHP Stolmy Pimentel is expected to transition from a reliever to a starter. Pimentel was primarily a starter in the minors through 2013.

Highly-regarded OF Jairo Beras, who has been taken off the Class A Hickory, N.C., roster , is expected to work with special minor league assistant Roy Silver, on some individual projects over the next couple of weeks.

Anyone know anything about what's up Beras?

Chad Bell's performance for Frisco last night reminded me of a discussion some of us had on here a few weeks ago. He struck out 11 and only walked one yet he only lasted 5 innings because he threw 91 pitches. Over 70% of his outs were strikeouts. Sometimes a pitcher can last longer by pitching to contact, but we all love a guy like Yu who can strike a lot of guys out.

This reminds me of another discussion we had on here back during ST.

Jeff Banister on Josh Hamilton's 'exceptional' attitude in minors, Joey Gallo playing in left field | Dallas Morning News

On Joey Gallo playing in left field:

Banister:"Well that was part of the plan coming out of spring training. When we first sent him back down out of major league camp the plan was that we'd get him some time out there trying to find a spot for him that he can play as well as third base. That left field spot has been one that we've been looking at to see if Joey can't nail that one down also."

There was this quote in ST that made some think Gallo would never move from 3B.

“It’s an interesting question,” Banister said of looking at Gallo in the outfield. “But this is the position he’s played since he got into pro baseball. He is a third baseman and he’s going to be a good big league third baseman. We’re going to let him focus on that.”

I'm assuming you're referring to Buckel? What's the skinny on Beras? Didn't really understand the comment in the article about him not being on the team, but yet is working with the team.

I'm good with a 9 pitch inning.

Good quotes Bennie. We all knew this too. The path to a ML job at 3b is blocked right now probably through next season ... so the path to the ML level is 3x wider if he gets work at the COF spots.

OT -- what have we heard about Rua being cleared to play? The on ramp to the 25man was already crowded before Hamilton joined the troop.

Rangers pitchers Martin Perez, Matt Harrison progressing
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
A couple of injred Rangers pitchers are making strides towards a return. Left-hander Martin Perezis scheduled to make his first start in extended spring training on June 5. He's been on the 60-day disabled list with an elbow injury. He hasn't pitched in a Major League game since May 10 of last season.

Right-hander Matt Harrison , meanwhile, is expected to make his third extended spring start on Saturday, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Harrison hasn't thrown a big league pitch since last May 13, as he is recovering from a back injury. If Harrison comes out of Saturday's start without any issue, he could head out on a minor-league rehab assignment in the near future.

Boy getting Harrison back would be a total bonus

Only Problem is the OF in general is getting crowded as well. When Hamilton comes back that is going to leave DeShields or Martin out and it better be Martin along with Blanks because Fielder and Moreland are tying up 1s/DH. Our least crowded areas are 2b, ss, and 3b. That is why Rua has to rehab at 2b as there is no place for him now in the OF. And Beltre and Andrus are not going to be moved.

Rangers' Ryan Rua to get foot scanned on Friday

From May 2nd

Rangers outfielder Ryan Rua will get a progress report on his injured right foot.

Rua is on the disabled list and expected back in late May or early June. He'll undergo a scan on his foot on Friday, to check the progress of his healing, per the Star Telegram.

Rangers' Ryan Rua takes swings off tee Monday

Tue, 12 May 2015 11:31 AM ET

Rangers outfielder Ryan Rua (foot) began baseball activities Monday by taking swings off a tee, MLB.com reports.

Rua suffered a nondisplaced fracture in his right heel and a sprained ankle on a collison with the outfield wall on April 10. He has been able to play catch and now is beginning to swing the bat in anticipation of a possible June return from the 60-day disabled list.

Looks like June

Huh, how about that. Harrison has learned to pitch with his right hand. Now that is one way to compensate for an injury to your left arm. LOL!
