Good lord man. I don’t think you could have possibly scripted a more worse collapse than this. This is like the titanic or the 1900 hurricane that hit Galveston.

seriously…. This team had 6 all stars. 4 of them in the infield. The first half they were drawing comparisons to the 1927 Yankees.

dont think anyone could’ve forseen that it would collapse this hard this fast.

Well, I think we can all agree that righting the ship this weekend is paramount. The upcoming series in To***to is a massive one for both teams. And as Sherrington said in his column this morning - time to bring up a couple of kids from RR and infuse some fresh arms into the equation. What can it hurt?

But - this weekend is friggin important.

You are right there. If we fail against Toronto you have my permission to say, "Run away, run away."

Worse ass kicking series for the Rangers since maybe ever!

it was the worst ass-kicking in the history of baseball, literally. No team has ever had a 3 game offensive outburst like the one we just saw. ever.

More concerned about the next 3 games against Oakland. If this team has life left in it they should rally and take all 3. If not, then they will struggle to even take 1

Exactly… anything less than a sweep isn’t optimal.

From Scott Lucas:

Eight games into his journey through AAA, Evan Carter's power hasn't quite manifested. Scanning through the data, he might have been cheated out of a double or two, but he hasn't hit anything homer-worthy yet. However, he's making steady contact and excelling on first pitches. He's put the ball in play on nine of 11 swings (an absurdly high 82%), batting .333 and slugging .444, and more than two-thirds of his takes are balls. That's how you propel a .436 OBP.

Happy to see this young man doing well. He is a great athlete and a great person. Until Langford magically dropped to us, I thought Walker Jenkins was sure to be a Ranger.

Yes it was the biggest shellacking in quite a bit
Hope Adolis is ok. And would be nice to infuse some youth

Really pennant race or not the Rangers seem to learn how to win again
That is what is at stake first

From Evan Grant:

You fix what you can.

Right now the lineup needs attention with García down. It’s also going to have to take on a different look. Even though García has struggled with fastballs in the second half, nobody is going to produce the power he provided. It’s going to take a different approach, one much heavier on on-base percentage and baserunning.

Carter does both well. In its best tools survey, Baseball America on Tuesday had Carter rated as both the best hitter and having the best strike zone judgement in the Texas League. It has equaled a .413 on-base percentage across 518 plate appearances (which includes a short rehab in the Arizona Complex League). He’s not going to give up at-bats. In the bottom third of a re-arranged lineup, he’s going to offer a better on-base profile, creating more run-producing opportunities for the still dangerous top-third of the lineup.

And, quite frankly, the Rangers now need to give him the same kind of experience they did Josh Jung a year ago. Because as much as chasing a playoff berth means now, the Rangers need to get a head-start on solving their problematic outfield situation for 2024. There hasn’t been an answer in left field all year. At this point, Leody Taveras can’t be counted upon. Who knows what the long-range implications of a significant injury to García’s knee are in terms of both availability and the impact on his game?

Jung struggled over the final month last year, took the experience and used it as a tool to hone his training over the winter. He was probably leading the Rookie of the Year race until his thumb injury.

Could the Rangers do even more? Sure. They could consider also adding outfielder Sandro Fabian, DH Blaine Crime or infielder Justin Foscue, though playing him defensively at third base, even for five innings a game, is risky. But he’s got a .391 OBP at Triple-A with a bit of power. Since Jung went down, his replacements, Ezequiel Duran and Josh Smith, have combined for a .276 OBP. Fabian, a right-handed hitter, might be the best complement with Carter to form another outfield platoon.

It’s a tricky position for the Rangers. For most of the season, they have approached things with an all-in, win-now mentality. And this close to a playoff spot, they must continue to honor that. But they must also balance it with the reality that they may not reach the postseason this year and considering how to take the best steps forward for the future, as well.

It had to be either the Padres or the Royals.

Is this going to make room for Carter? (The Otto move).
