Rangers' Yovani Gallardo wins second straight

Rangers starter Yovani Gallardo improved to 9-9 on the year with a win over Tampa on Sunday.

Gallardo won his second straight. He allowed a season-high 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings. Gallardo hasn't lasted six full innings in six of his last seven starts.

This almost seems funny

Tonight feels like a very important game. The Mariners have owned us. If we are to have any shot, we must do better against the M's and the A's.
Guess what? Everyone else too.

Like I said above, we are 4-8, 4-9, and 2-7 against the Angels, A's, and Mariners.

6 and 16 against two teams (A's/M's) that are playing at a combined .447 clip just won't cut much mustard, will it now?

ha ha ha......I was going to send him a smart-ass email about it, but thought better of it, since I got on his bad side recently.

Wish not to go there again, nor stay there, I might add.

It really is funny to me to look at some of my post and realize (too late of course) that "this isn't what I meant to say at all." Oops......So I know exactly how he feels.

I don't get why we play so bad against Oakland. Its like we think they are still the team to beat. The Mariners we have crashed a burned a few times in the BP against them.

I'm just hoping for a good start from Hamels tonight.

By the way, does it seem like the fact that we have Cole friggin' Hamels on the team now is an afterthought?

Norm Hitzges is officially a believer. He thinks we have a good chance at not only making the playoffs, but winning the division as well.

Do you guys see JD picking up anyone before the end of August?

If they kick ass in September, winning the division is doable.

They have a stretch of 23 games in 24 days (17 in a row to start) against AL West opponents. That's the season right there.

It seems like the whole team just quits when we play them

I don't know what to think really. When they're better than us they beat the crap outta us, and when they aren't, they do the same.

Never been a great believer in one team just having another teams number, but damn if this situation might just bring me to the other side.

Scott Lucas had some good things to say about 20-year-old Yohander Mendez who has 67 strikeouts and only 13 walks this year in 58 innings with Hickory.

His line yesterday:
SP Yohander Mendez: 5 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts, 1.40 ERA

Mendez continues to produce one of the finest seasons I can recall, albeit on a restricted workload. In 58 innings, opponents are hitting .211/.262/.269 with no homers and a 29% strikeout rate.

If I know one thing, it is to never speak in absolutes when it comes to JD's moves. I had some vibes that he would try to re-acquire Napoli as a RH bat, while most thought I was a moron. Just when I think he will stand pat, he surprises. They guy very seldom shows his hand, though I do however think he has a move or 2 left for this season.

Kela Diek Tyson Freeman and Tolley are pretty serviceable IMO. We need a starter that can give a solid seven.

Best case scenario, moving into September, the rotation will be some form of Hamels / Holland / Lewis / Perez / Gallardo.

Of those, Hamels is the one I feel most confident about being able to go 7. Lewis and Perez are 2a and 2b; they'll be good for at least 6 frequently, which I'm OK with. Holland will need multiple starts before he is in any sort of rhythm. If Gallardo ever goes 6 again, it'd be notable.
