In this season of dismal letdowns, there's at least one ray of sunshine coming our way:

The White Sox have thus far given up 223 runs...An average of 6.03 runs per game.

Since I was born in 1978, 45 full seasons ago, only 6 teams have given up that many runs per game on average. (You can count 7 if you want to include this year's A's, who most certainly will give up that many...)

6 times out of about 1250 team seasons prior to this one.

Our pitching/defense is not just bad...It's HISTORICALLY BAD gentlemen. I wouldn't expect much. I don't care how bad our division is.

was kinda hoping the return of anderson would make a difference, ... but he sucks right along with the rest of them. there are no longer any untouchables on this team for me. in fact, they can move for all i care. maybe the "albuquerque white sox"?
the worst period in white sox history wasn't in 1919. it was in 1981.

IMO - the largest failure this year is Katz - time for him to go.

Some observations:

Andrew Vaughn hasn't accumulated the stats at the plate I thought he would. He has hit .400 with runners in scoring position - which is but what impresses me is he has done a very good job fielding the 1st base position.

With Eloy coming back - the squeeze is on for at bats for Sheets and Burger. Burger is doctor strange glove but he is a major league hitter who hits righties and lefties. Sheets has continued to improve at he the plate and in RF. It's still a log jam for 1st base DH types on this team.

There are no minor league starters ready to pitch for the Sox in the bigs.

Benintendi is not the great defender in LF I had hoped for - he plays under control - understands baseball situations - throws to the correct base. Still no homers but is a steady hitter against righties and lefties. His value is a little south of his contract dollars.

I'm expecting another grand sell off - with Cease - Giolito - Eloy - as trade chips.

Joe Kelly has mastered the pitch clock - by exaggerating his leg kick and windup to put batters on their heels as to when the pitch will actually come. So the Sox will probably try to trade him too.
