The one intangible is McVay and Phillips. These guys know how to handle mercurial players and off-field issues. They have a system that took our team from the cellar to the top in ONE season. How many times have I bellyached about getting the people to do just that and those two have now done that? I wouldn't worry to badly about so-called mortgaging the future by giving away our number one this year.
The guy we got is going to fill a need. Some think he is better than Watkins and he isn't costing us an arm and a leg either. The Rams already want to extend his contract. That says they have been watching this guy for some time now.

We are going to get some great players with our fourth rounders and our sixth rounders as this player personnel department has been revamped from the drama queen days.. We will also have 100 mil in cap space next year just in time to take care of AD and Gurley and be ready to handle Goff a year later if all works out as anticipated as he will be in year three of his rookie contract.

Things are looking really good for us on paper and after watching McVay for a season, I believe he will make good on his moves this off-season.

Finally, we ain't done. I expect to see Austin and Barron out the door on draft day to move up into the third or maybe even the second.

So before everyone starts walking towards the ledge, we will be alright. Afterall, we finished last season at 11-5. An upgrade may be 12-4 or even 13-3. If not and we build a powerhouse as a result, we are still in really good shape!!

Don't forget we will have 100 mil in cap space next year to handle all of those FAs. We also will get compensatory picks and we will have our first next year. This is one of the reasons that killed any OBJ talk. The Geeants wanted two number ones. Now that would have been stupid. I like this deal and I like what we have this year and next!!

Oh man, we miss out on the famous 199 pick?

I'm sure Snead and McVay will have something up their sleeves for the draft.

Definitely need some DE and LBer depth

Is Cooks worth the 15-16M they didn't want to pay Watkins?

Because that is what he's going to command

I would say yes.... The guy is productive and doesn't have the injury history Watkins has. I've also never seen Cooks quit on patterns like Sammy did at times last year...

Actually Watkins led the Rams in TD catches so he will be missed and if Cooks experience and speed can copy that performance the Rams will be in good shape. But I agree I hate to see a 1st rounder tossed away on a hunch.

Where was Sammy ranked on targets?

I know Kupp and Woods got the majority of passes but often Watkins would pull two defenders deep. I don't know if Cooks has that kind of speed and ability but the Rams think he does. We will see.

Some say he is the missing piece;
By trading for Brandin Cooks, Rams get missing piece on offense

"The speedy Cooks, who totaled 65 receptions for 1,082 yards and seven touchdowns for the Patriots last season, fills that void alongside Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. Cooks had 16 receptions on passes thrown 20-plus yards downfield last season, tied with DeAndre Hopkins for most in the NFL"

The latest I have read about our edge rusher "problem" and LB depth is Phillips likes Price, Littleton, Thompson and all three will get significant playing time this year.

Phillips likes Price alot because he is a short squatting guy who is close to 265lbs and has the same type of speed and leverage in his play that Donald plays with and that has contributed to Donald's greatness.

The likelihood is very good that Price maybe the new edge rusher starter replacing Quinn. He will be better than Quinn in the LB department because he played it in college and he is a pretty good edge rusher in his own right.

Don't under-estimate this guy along with Littleton and Thompson. Littleton and Thompson had some good play when they were in there last year.

Barwin hasn't signed yet and he is not in a hurry because he has no offers from other teams to date. We also have 8 draft picks and there is always the URFAs that will show-up in camps in the months to come. So again we are sitting pretty right now at least on paper.
